17 Nov 2024 <\/em>– US President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to use US manufacturing long-range weapons into Russian territory, two U.S. top officials and a source familiar with the decision said today. While neither the White House nor the Pentagon has confirmed it, nor the Ukrainian government of Volodymyr Zelensky.<\/p>\n

The decision comes after months of pleas by Zelenskiy to allow Ukraine\u2019s military to use U.S. weapons to hit Russian military targets far from its border and two months months before President-elect\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0takes office on Jan. 20.<\/p>\n

According to sources quoted by several media the permission of Biden passes to use US weapons is in response to the alleged sending to Ukraine of \u201cthousands of North Korean soldiers\u201d to join Russian forces in their efforts to regain control of Russian territory captured by Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region.<\/p>\n

The weapons authorized are specifically guided supersonic missiles called ATACMS which can carry conventional or cluster heads and have a range of about 190 miles or 300 kilometers.<\/p>\n

Previously, Russian government has warned that it would see a move to loosen the limits on Ukraine\u2019s use of U.S. weapons as a major escalation.<\/p>\n

The Kremlin repeatedly warned that the West plays with fire when supplying weapons to Ukraine, and that foreign convoys carrying weapons would be \u201clegitimate targets\u201d for its army as soon as they crossed the border, and that the sending of military material to Ukraine does not contribute to the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will only have a negative effect.<\/p>\n

While, several U.S. officials have expressed skepticism that allowing long-range strikes will change the war\u2019s overall trajectory and it is not clear yet if Trump will reverse Biden\u2019s decision when he takes office.<\/p>\n
