The laws of war only ever seem to be forgotten when it is Israel violating them.\u00a0<\/em><em>If Hamas struck a hospital treating Netanyahu it would not be justifiable. But the laws of war are forgotten when Israel violates them.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Israel and its genocide cheerleaders are claiming Israel\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeasteye.net\/news\/israel-bombs-gazas-nasser-hospital-again-killing-patients\"  rel=\"\">air strike<\/a> on the Nasser Hospital in Gaza last night \u2013 which killed several patients and staff \u2013 was justified because a Hamas politician was being treated there for injuries from an earlier Israeli strike.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has also seized on the fact that a Hamas official was in the hospital to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IDF\/status\/1903902958992904329\"  rel=\"\">retroactively rationalise<\/a> its destruction of Gaza\u2019s entire health sector, leaving more than 2 million Palestinians with barely functioning medical care in the midst of Israel\u2019s genocidal bombing campaign.<\/p>\n<p>At the weekend, the Israeli army blew up the entire Turkish Hospital in Gaza and did so without any possible military justification. Its soldiers had been occupying the hospital, using it as a military post, for much of the past year.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital had served its purpose for Israel \u2013 and Israel sees no purpose for Palestinian hospitals actually serving the Palestinian population. After all, Israel\u2019s goal is to drive Palestinians out of Gaza, and that is made easier if Palestinians have no surviving medical facilities in the enclave.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING | Israel destroys the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, near the Netzarim Corridor, Gaza. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/p1oC0gb1CI\" >pic.twitter.com\/p1oC0gb1CI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Cradle (@TheCradleMedia) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheCradleMedia\/status\/1903033960109605265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >March 21, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Once again, Israel\u2019s \u201cjustification\u201d for the latest attack on Nasser Hospital doesn\u2019t even bother to suggest it accords with any known principle of international law.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few reminders about the long-established laws of war that only ever seem to be forgotten when it is Israel violating them.<\/p>\n<p>Even fighters are considered non-combatants \u2013 that is, not legitimate targets for military attack \u2013 when they are injured and no longer engaged in combat. That rule applies even more obviously to politicians.<\/p>\n<p>All Israel\u2019s hospitals, such as Rambam in Haifa, regularly treat <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rambam.org.il\/en\/rambam_news\/gallant_visit_hospitalized_soldiers.aspx\"  rel=\"\">Israeli soldiers injured in combat<\/a>. The question doesn\u2019t even need asking.<\/p>\n<p>The only reason it is okay for Israel to attack a Palestinian hospital, killing Palestinian civilians, to assassinate a Palestinian politician is because the western political and media class are out-and-out anti-Palestinian racists.<\/p>\n<p>Palestinian life is meaningless to them. Israel calls Palestinians \u2018human animals\u2019 \u2013 and western leaders secretly concur.<\/p>\n<p>Once Jews were seen that way \u2013 as human animals. Their lives were worthless. They were killed on an industrial scale across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s Europe is no different, nor is the US. It\u2019s just that Jews are no longer the objects of the West\u2019s institutional racism and its structural violence. Palestinians are.<\/p>\n<p>The West\u2019s racism that led to the Holocaust is still with us. We have not learnt from history. Our politics has not evolved beyond that of our great-grandparents\u2019 generation. The Gaza genocide is our generation\u2019s Holocaust.
