They attacked the new Pope as anti-Trump pro-open borders, a Marxist, and soft on thugs and drug dealers, as\u00a0Media Matters\u00a0documented. We talked to the\u00a0excellent\u00a0political theorist\u00a0Matt McManus, who was raised in the church and\u00a0regularly wrestles with the intellectual roots\u00a0of today\u2019s right wing, including in his 2023 book,\u00a0<em>The Political Right and Equality<\/em>.
