He and his father have ruled Syria since <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hafez_al-Assad\" title=\"1971\"  target=\"_blank\">1971<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But what about Saudi Arabia? The Saudi royal monarchy has been ruling that region for <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saudi_royal_family#Origins_and_early_history\" title=\"hundreds of years\"  target=\"_blank\"><i>hundreds<\/i> of years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saudi_royal_family#Succession\" title=\"notes\"  target=\"_blank\">notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Due to its <b>authoritarian and theocratic<\/b> rule, the House of Saud has attracted much criticism during its rule of Saudi Arabia. Its opponents generally refer to the Saudi monarchy as <b>totalitarians or dictators<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>There have been numerous incidents of demonstrations and other forms of resistance against the House of Saud.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>All surviving males (including Utaybi himself) were beheaded publicly in four cities of Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>While the Saudi royal family pushes the most strict and fundamentalist form Islam, the Saudi royal family\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TcPw0uzrrpI&amp;list=PLA9F8BC740184BDF9&amp;index=1\" title=\"debauchery\"  target=\"_blank\">debauchery<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=A7-A-ImHhjA&amp;list=PLA9F8BC740184BDF9\" title=\"corruption\"  target=\"_blank\">corruption<\/a> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.equaltimes.org\/in-depth\/saudi-blogger-blows-cover-on-royal-corruption\" title=\"legendary\"  target=\"_blank\">legendary<\/a>. The monarchs \u2013 while pushing strict Wahabism as the official state religion \u2013 don\u2019t practice it.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Qatar has been ruled by one family monarchy for over <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Qatar\" title=\"150 years\"  target=\"_blank\"><i>150<\/i> years<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Qatar has been ruled as an absolute and hereditary emirate by the Al Thani family since the mid-19th century.<\/p>\n<p>CBS News includes Qatar on its list of \u201c<b>The world\u2019s enduring dictators<\/b>\u201c, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-503543_162-20069520-503543.html\" title=\"noting\"  target=\"_blank\">noting<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Like many of its neighbors, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/football\/article-1389969\/Qatar-World-Cup-2022-bid-slams-bribery-allegations.html\" title=\"the controversial host of the 2022 World Cup\"  target=\"_blank\">the controversial host of the 2022 World Cup<\/a> in soccer is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanrights.ie\/index.php\/2010\/12\/09\/qatar-the-world-cup-migrant-workers-and-human-rights\/\" title=\"accused of many human rights abuses\"  target=\"_blank\">accused of many human rights abuses<\/a> when it comes to its foreign workers, like setting them up in squalid labor camps separate from society, confiscating their passports upon arrival, and giving them a general lack of rights. That said, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amnestyusa.org\/all-countries\/qatar\/page.do?id=1011226\" title=\"Amnesty International reports\"  target=\"_blank\">Amnesty International reports<\/a> only sporadic instances of torture and abuse by state security forces. As for Sheikh Hamad\u2019s dictatorial bona fides, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/04\/04\/world\/middleeast\/04qatar.html\" title=\"The New York Times writes\"  target=\"_blank\">The New York Times writes<\/a>: \u201cWhile Qatar calls for democracy outside its borders, democracy here is provisional at best. While there are municipal elections, and women can vote in them, the country has a Parliament building but no Parliament \u2014 or any other political institution, for that matter \u2014 that can challenge the royal family\u2019s grip on power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Bahrain has been ruled almost continuously by the Al Khalifa royal monarchy since <i><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bahrain#Al_Khalifa_ascendancy\" title=\"1820\"  target=\"_blank\">1820<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Bahrain also makes CBS News\u2019 list of \u201cworld\u2019s enduring dictators\u201d. CBS <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-503543_162-20070682-503543.html\" title=\"noted\"  target=\"_blank\">noted<\/a> in 2011:<\/p>\n<p>Uprisings in the late 1990s as well as right now have been fueled as much by resentment from the repressed, poor Shiite majority against their privileged Sunni rulers as anything else. In both uprisings, accusations against the government of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalpost.com\/dispatch\/news\/regions\/middle-east\/110329\/bahrain-protests-unrest-crackdown\" title=\"gross human rights violations and protester murders\"  target=\"_blank\">gross human rights violations and protester murders<\/a> have been plentiful. At least 11 demonstrators have been killed so far this year. Most recently, Bahraini security forces stand accused of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrw.org\/en\/news\/2011\/03\/30\/bahrain-wounded-protesters-beaten-detained\" title=\"indiscriminate abduction and torture of dissidents\"  target=\"_blank\">indiscriminate abduction and torture of dissidents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Things have gotten worse since then. Three-time Emmy award winning CNN reporter Amber Lyon reported on her first-hand experience of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2012\/09\/3-time-emmy-award-winning-cnn-journalist-mainstream-media-takes-money-from-foreign-dictators-to-run-flattering-propaganda.html\" title=\"systematic torture and murder of peaceful protesters by the government of Bahrain\" >systematic torture and murder of peaceful protesters by the government of Bahrain<\/a>. But she was fired by CNN for doing so \u2026 while CNN <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2012\/09\/3-time-emmy-award-winning-cnn-journalist-mainstream-media-takes-money-from-foreign-dictators-to-run-flattering-propaganda.html\" title=\"accepted payment from the Bahraini monarchs to run a fluff propaganda piece\" >accepted payment from the Bahraini monarchs to run a fluff propaganda piece<\/a> about them.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the U.S. government has supplied <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/05\/u-s-currently-fighting-74-different-wars-that-it-publicly-admits.html\" title=\"substantial military support\" >substantial military support<\/a> to the Saudi, Qatari and Bahraini dictators.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Federal Reserve also <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2011\/10\/the-fed-bails-out-gaddafis-libyan-bank-arab-banking-corp-of-bahrain-banks-of-bavaria-korea-and-mexico-but-shafts-america.html\" title=\"Gaddafi\u2019s Libyan bank, the Arab Banking Corporation of Bahrain, and the banks of Bavaria, Korea and Mexico\" >bailed out the Arab Banking Corporation of Bahrain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Why is the U.S. backing the dictators in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain?<\/p>\n<p>Because the U.S. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/05\/the-u-s-is-supporting-the-most-violent-muslim-terrorists-in-order-to-wage-war-for-oil.html\" title=\"back the Sunni jihadists against Shia Muslims\" >backs the <b><i>Sunni Muslims<\/i><\/b> against the Shias<\/a>.
