Of walking through the territory patrolled<br \/>\nby the cats.<br \/>\nof cat traps, and cat cages,<br \/>\nand cats without claws and teeth; Of a world without cats.<\/p>\n<p>And this mouse, she&#8217;s a dreamin\u02bb<br \/>\nof acres of lo`i kalo, of nets full of `\u014dpelu, of rocks choked with \u02bbopihi and limu,<br \/>\nof forests of Koa and \u02bbIliahi and Wiliwili,<br \/>\nof empty and crushing buildings which no longer scrape the sky;<br \/>\nof living in the open once again, to be sun-warmed and star-shined;<br \/>\nof walking. Of walking through the territory controlled<br \/>\nby the Cat.<br \/>\nof cat traps, and cat cages;<br \/>\nand cats without claws and teeth; Of a world without Cats.<\/p>\n<p>And the mice dream dreams<br \/>\nthat would terrify the cat.<\/p>\n<p>__________________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Puanani-Burgess.png\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-293105\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Puanani-Burgess-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> Puanani Burgess (1947 -2024) was a poet, priest, aunty, and friend to many. She was a community activist in the Native Hawaiian sovereignty movement for over fifty years. As the designer and facilitator for Building the Beloved Community \u2013 a process that brings ceremony, storytelling, and circles of trust and respect \u2013 Aunty Pua shared Native Hawaiian practices throughout the world to bring healing and reconciliation. She served as the Myles and Zilphia Horton Chair for the Highlander Research and Education Center in Tennessee and as a community scholar in residence at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawai\u2019i. Aunty Pua was an ordained Zen Buddhist priest in the International Daihonzan Chozen-ji.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou want to make a difference?
