For the protesters of Taksim square.<\/i><\/p>\n
street lamps are falling
\nin Taksim square
\nsepia grass sold
\nyoung hearts remain,
\nbecoming soot to catch light.<\/p>\n
hundreds flock
\nmuslims christians and freethinkers,
\nblack-brown haired heads cluster
\nthey shout demand sing,
\nlemons and vinegar
\nwater and face masks
\ncotton clothes and skins,
\nare wood uniforms.<\/p>\n
faces around faces
\neyes and noses,
\nsweat
\nthe saliva of pepper rain;
\na friend I’ve never met
\nin tears\u00a0 \u00a0in the crowd.
\nI sent her few thoughts,
\nimpervious raincoats
\nplenty I’ve held.<\/p>\n
they’re all in tears,
\ntheir laughter torn;
\nnew malls
\nto sell them new.<\/p>\n
