Zeitoun, Sabra, Jabalia, and Rimal, where the scarce infrastructure still allowed the population to subsist in extreme precariousness, have been the main targets of this final offensive. Witnesses and international media describe the advance of ground troops accompanied by the continuous arrival of reinforcements, while the civilian population remains trapped, deprived of safe escape routes or any significant resistance.

The total demolition of the Palestinian urban fabric

The underlying thesis, verified by current events, is the systematic demolition of Gaza City, with the epicenter in the most populated areas and in the basic infrastructure that, until a few hours ago, somehow allowed Palestinian family life to continue. Since the unilateral declaration of the city as a battlefield, the bombing has not only targeted supposed military objectives—if any remain—but clearly the physical and social eradication of the last organized civilian stronghold. A campaign unprecedented in intensity and scope has devastated apartment buildings, hospitals, shelters, and schools.

Nasser Hospital, one of the few still functioning, was hit twice in less than 48 hours, leaving dozens of doctors, patients, and journalists dead. There is no longer any health infrastructure, let alone schools, capable of serving society, and desolation spreads among the survivors, who wander through the rubble in search of water, food, or missing relatives.

Breakdown of the destruction process

The selective bombing of the last habitable areas follows a logic of “urban cleansing”: through bombing, they are preparing the ground for Israeli occupation and settlement, the original plan. Satellite images and field reports warn that more than 60% of buildings have been reduced to rubble and the forced exodus exceeds half a million displaced people in the city.

Military operations have transformed Gaza City into an irregular field of ruins, where the trapped population is experiencing a double tragedy: massive attacks and a total lack of institutional protection. Residents have abandoned their homes, fleeing en masse or seeking refuge in any remaining indoor space. The collapse of homes, hospitals, water and electricity systems condemns thousands of civilians to conditions of absolute misery, without access to essential services, and deaths from malnutrition and untreated injuries are increasing every day.

Not to mention the collapsed educational infrastructure: 97% of schools are damaged and 92% require total reconstruction. Children and adolescents have lost the school year and the right to any form of safe education. Indiscriminate bombing of shelters, hospitals, and schools has buried the last Palestinian social and community network.

The humanitarian and urban situation has become desperate. More than 86% of the Gaza Strip is under Israeli military control. Those who have not managed to flee are surviving in massive concentrations, hungry, thirsty, and lacking medicine. The actual numbers of dead and wounded are unknown, as many bodies remain under the rubble and reporting capabilities are at their limit.

International reactions: Political and humanitarian

Political reactions to the plan of total occupation and systematic bombing have been resoundingly condemnatory. Israeli political leader Yair Lapid called the measure “a disaster that will lead to many more disasters,” while organizations such as the UN and the European Commission called for the immediate suspension of the military operation. UN Secretary-General António Guterres said, “It is a man-made disaster, a moral critique and a failure of humanity.” He insisted that the famine in Gaza is not the result of a lack of food, but of “the deliberate collapse of the systems necessary for human survival,” which clearly underscores Israel’s real intention and ultimate goal through its version of a “final solution,” as in the Nazi genocide.Among the main European foreign ministries, Spanish Minister José Manuel Albares condemned the military escalation for “causing more suffering and destruction” and called for a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, and unrestricted humanitarian access. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the Israeli plan “misguided” and warned that it “will only lead to more bloodshed.”

UN spokesman Stephan Dujarric emphasized: “Every day without a ceasefire brings more preventable deaths: children succumbing to pain, hungry people being shot while trying to access minimal aid flows.” International agencies highlight the extreme urgency of large-scale humanitarian aid, the increase in deaths from starvation and acute malnutrition, and the disappearance of all safe food consumption in Gaza.

A joint statement by 25 United Nations experts and rapporteurs denounced the management of humanitarian aid under Israeli military auspices, accusing it of complicity in war crimes, genocide, and the exploitation of aid for covert geopolitical objectives. They noted that military forces have fired indiscriminately at those attempting to access food distribution points, causing hundreds of deaths among unarmed civilians.

The breakdown of the social fabric: Experts and testimonies

Alex de Waal, a renowned famine specialist, has warned: “Famine is as much a physical experience of bodily consumption as it is a collective experience of dehumanization, of tearing apart the social fabric.” In Gaza, the expert points out, the use of hunger as a weapon seeks not only to kill, but also to dismantle the target society. The social element—trauma, shame, loss of identity, violation of taboos, and the breakdown of community ties—will be more persistent in the collective memory than physical pain. “Those who impose famine are aware of the damage they are doing: they are dismantling a society. The Israeli military campaign, together with the destruction of essential goods and forced displacement, suggests an intention that goes far beyond defeating Hamas. It indicates a desire to dismantle all political and functional capacity in Gaza, or even to completely expel the Palestinian population from the region.”

Statistics from international organizations support this diagnosis: from May 27 to date, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed while trying to access food and basic aid. The impact of trauma, extreme insecurity, and mass starvation has reshaped the surviving population into a decimated, traumatized community at the limit of its biological and social capacities. The fabric of family, school, and health care is completely fractured, and most residents have lost hope of returning to a dignified life.

Gaza City, the edge of catastrophe

The demolition of Gaza City by massive bombing not only destroys its urban fabric, but also the organizational and vital foundation that sustained Palestinian existence. The systematic offensive, culminating in today’s attacks, places the city on the brink of functional disappearance, with tens of thousands of victims, millions of displaced persons, and an entire generation condemned to poverty, exile, and collective trauma. The international community describes the situation as an unprecedented moral and political crisis, warning that any possible reconstruction will require more than bricks and mortar: it will require healing a society that has been wounded and dismantled to its very roots.

Go to Original – pressenza.com

30 Aug 2025 – The last 48 hours in Gaza City have been marked by a series of relentless bombings that have destroyed the last habitable neighborhoods in the city.

[54
3287,1559,1854,101,100,1199,2242,87,3505,865,1029,1966,1644,3538,88,2416,1062,3536,771,427,3534,2897,880,99,70,965,1025
post-302194","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-palestine-israel-gaza-genocide","tag-anti-zionism","tag-collective-punishment","tag-crimes-against-humanity","tag-cultural-violence","tag-direct-violence","tag-ethnic-cleansing","tag-famine","tag-gaza","tag-gaza-humanitarian-foundation-ghf","tag-genocide","tag-hamas","tag-hunger","tag-international-court-of-justice-icj","tag-international-holocaust-remembrance-alliance","tag-israel","tag-israeli-occupation","tag-mercenaries","tag-military-industrial-technological-complex","tag-nakba","tag-palestine","tag-palestinian-holocaust","tag-sociocide","tag-state-terrorism","tag-structural-violence","tag-usa","tag-war-crimes","tag-west-bank
["GET
