{"id":302692,"date":"2025-09-08T12:00:39","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T11:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=302692"},"modified":"2025-09-08T06:57:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T05:57:00","slug":"we-are-grateful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2025\/09\/we-are-grateful\/","title":{"rendered":"We Are Grateful"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>7 Sept 2025<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nWe are grateful for those who resist and remain,<br \/>\nWho struggle through genocide, bearing the pain.<br \/>\nFor doctors in Gaza who heal night and day,<br \/>\nRisking their lives so that others may stay.<br \/>\nFor journalists daring to tell what is true,<br \/>\nTwo hundred and fifty struck down as they do.<br \/>\nFor martyrs whose courage still kindles the flame,<br \/>\nFor survivors who rise and give hope with their name.<br \/>\nFor friends in the city refusing to flee,<br \/>\nFor millions who march, for the jailed yet free.<br \/>\nFor hearts that stay open, for minds that will fight,<br \/>\nFor Hind Rajab\u2019s voice that was honored that night.<br \/>\n&#8212;-<br \/>\nWe are grateful for meetings that circle the earth,<br \/>\nFor the dream of one country, one land of true worth.<br \/>\nFor networks that link us through fifty-plus lands,<br \/>\nFor gifts of supporters, their hearts and their hands.<br \/>\nFor staff and for volunteers steady and kind,<br \/>\nFor children whose questions awaken the mind.<br \/>\nFor gardens and museums where memory stays,<br \/>\nFor prayers and good wishes that brighten our days.<br \/>\nFor animals, plants that remind us we\u2019re one,<br \/>\nFor food and for water, for light of the sun.<br \/>\nFor friendships enduring, unbroken, and strong,<br \/>\nThat carry us forward, that lift us in song.<br \/>\n&#8212;<br \/>\nWe are grateful for tyrants who showed us their face,<br \/>\nTheir hatred, their greed, their corruption, their race.<br \/>\nFor Trump and for Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir, and the rest,<br \/>\nWhose crimes strip the mask, put their lies to the test.<br \/>\nFor trials that teach us endurance and care,<br \/>\nFor joy in the sorrows we\u2019re chosen to bear.<br \/>\n&#8212;-<br \/>\nWe are grateful for parents who taught us the way,<br \/>\nTo cherish the good, and to not go astray.<br \/>\nFor family and friends who still walk by our side,<br \/>\nFor ancestors\u2019 struggles, their unbroken stride.<br \/>\nFor birth in a land where my soul will remain,<br \/>\nPalestine\u2019s soil, through the joy and the pain.<br \/>\nThe Fertile Crescent, where rivers still flow,<br \/>\nThe cradle of peoples all humanity know.<br \/>\nA crossroads of wisdom, of story, of seed,<br \/>\nA beacon of justice in humanity\u2019s need.<br \/>\nThe wind strips the mask from hypocrisy\u2019s eyes,<br \/>\nRevealing the truth and unmasking the lies.<\/p>\n<p><em>____________________________________________<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Mazin-Qumsiyeh-Photo-Carolin-Smith-e1525358546627.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-71639 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Mazin-Qumsiyeh-Photo-Carolin-Smith-e1525358546627.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"58\" \/><\/a> Mazin Qumsiyeh, associate professor of genetics and director of cytogenetic services at Yale University School of Medicine, is founder and president of the Holy Land Conservation Foundation and ex-president of the Middle East Genetics Association. He is co-founder and national treasurer of Al-Awda, the Palestine Right to Return Coalition, and has written extensively about the Middle East.
