RIP, Assata Shakur\u2014
\nbut not in silence, not in chains.
\nShe crossed over unbroken,
\nunder the Havana sun,
\nwhere no bars could hold her breath,
\nno shackles could bend her will.<\/p>\n

The empire hunted her,
\ndreamed of her broken body
\nas a trophy of fear\u2014
\nbut she slipped their claws,
\noutlived their cages,
\nand walked among people
\nwho called her sister,
\nwho called her flame.<\/p>\n

For racist white America,
\nshe was a fugitive shadow.
\nFor us,
\nshe was thunder refusing to bow,
\na voice that cracked the whip of lies,
\na heartbeat of rebellion
\nthat would not be silenced.<\/p>\n

She leaves this world
\nwith her dignity untorn,
\nher story unbent,
\nher defiance ETERNAL.
\nShe was never theirs.<\/p>\n

She belonged to history,
\nto the people,
\nto the fight that does not end.
\nNow she belongs to the ancestors\u2014
\na constellation of warriors
\nguiding us home.
