It\u2019s Netanyahu\u2019s fourth trip to Washington since Trump began his term in January.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Trump facilitated an Oval Office <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/09\/29\/trump-prompts-netanyahu-to-apologize-to-qatar-for-bombing-its-capital-00584738\"  data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/09\/29\/trump-prompts-netanyahu-to-apologize-to-qatar-for-bombing-its-capital-00584738\">phone call<\/a> between Netanyahu and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, in which the Israeli leader apologized for the September 9 attack on Doha.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu expressed regret about the strikes and, specifically, \u201cthat, in targeting Hamas leadership during hostage negotiations, Israel violated Qatari sovereignty,\u201d according to a White House readout of the phone call.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being touted as a diplomatic breakthrough, the 20-point plan recycles a number of previous White House declarations.<\/p>\n<p>The plan would include a prisoner swap, complete Hamas disarmament, and the formulation of a transitional government led by an international body. Additionaly, it requires Gaza to become \u201cderadicalized terror-free zone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u00a0would chair a \u201cboard of peace\u201d to reconstruct the Gaza Strip as part of the program, while Jordan and Egypt would train new Palestinian security forces.<\/p>\n<p>Trump told reporters that it was an \u201cextremely fair\u201d proposal and claimed that Hamas \u201cwants to get this done too,\u201d despite <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ryangrim\/status\/1972747888720765375\"  data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ryangrim\/status\/1972747888720765375\">reports<\/a> that Hamas has yet to receive the plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also want to thank Prime Minister Netanyahu for agreeing to the plan and for trusting that if we work together, we can bring an end to the death and destruction that we\u2019ve seen for so many years, decades, even centuries and begin a new chapter of security, peace and prosperity for the entire region,\u201d said Trump.<\/p>\n<p>If Hamas rejects the deal, Trump said Israel \u201cwould have my full backing to finish the job\u201d of destroying the group. Netanyahu said Hamas could choose the \u201ceasy way or hard way\u201d going forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone understands that the ultimate result must be the elimination of any danger posed in the region, and that danger is caused by Hamas,\u201d explained Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Neither leader took questions after the press conference.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly before the meeting, <em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/09\/29\/trump-netanyahu-gaza-peace-deal-israel-meeting\"  data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/09\/29\/trump-netanyahu-gaza-peace-deal-israel-meeting\">Axios<\/a><\/em> published a report by Marc Caputo and Barak Ravid, which claimed Trump is \u201cwilling to break with him over Gaza for the first time since returning to office.\u201d It quoted an anonymous Trump official who insisted that \u201ceveryone \u2014 and I mean everyone \u2014 is exasperated with Bibi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite such assertions, the Trump administration has continued to support the assault on Gaza without conditions of any kind.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, in a 72-page report, the UN Commission of Inquiry concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and called for an arms embargo on the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does this mean for the international community?,\u201d wrote UN human rights chief and commission member\u00a0Navi Pillay after the report was released. \u201cIt means its obligations are not optional. Every state has an obligation to prevent genocide wherever it occurs,\u201d she continued. \u201cThat obligation requires action: halting the transfer of weapons and military support used in genocidal acts, ensuring unimpeded humanitarian assistance, stopping the mass displacement and destruction, and using all available diplomatic and legal means to stop the killing. To do nothing is not neutrality.
