The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) seeks to assimilate Uyghurs, replacing their culture with Han Chinese language and culture. Uyghur social and political institutions are being destroyed and replaced by CCP communism.<\/span><\/p>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-l741i88\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\">Since the 1990s, millions of Han Chinese have been resettled in Xinjiang under the &#8220;Big Development of the Northwest Plan.&#8221; The CCP has detained millions of Uyghurs in &#8220;reeducation&#8221; camps, forcibly placing Han Chinese monitors in Uyghur homes to suppress independence movements. Officials justify these policies as \u201ccounterterrorism\u201d measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-erfa892\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\">In 1997, protests erupted after China banned Uyghur traditional celebrations, leading to a CCP crackdown that killed over 200 people and resulted in mass arrests. Tensions escalated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/press-release\/2012\/07\/urumqi-riots-three-years-crackdown-uighurs-grows-bolder\/\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\">2009 Urumqi riots<\/a>, ethnic clashes that left 200 dead.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-xa3w498\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\">Xinjiang is heavily surveilled, with widespread biometric data collection and AI-driven monitoring. &#8220;Convenience police stations&#8221; enforce CCP control, particularly targeting Uyghurs at checkpoints. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2023\/05\/04\/china-phone-search-program-tramples-uyghur-rights\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\">Advanced <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2023\/05\/04\/china-phone-search-program-tramples-uyghur-rights\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Surveillance<\/em><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2023\/05\/04\/china-phone-search-program-tramples-uyghur-rights\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\">\u00a0technologies,<\/a>\u00a0including AI monitoring and biometric data collection, track and control Uyghurs&#8217; movements.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-wb35t106\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\">Since 2017, 800,000 to 2 million Uyghurs have been detained in mass detention centers where they undergo forced CCP indoctrination, physical abuse, sexual violence, and cultural erasure. The Uyghur language is banned in these \u201creeducation camps.\u201d \u00a0During indoctrination, detainees are coerced into abandoning Islam. The CCP has demolished many Uyghur mosques, severely restricting Uyghur religious freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-o2nwo110\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\">The Chinese government continues its campaign of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ushmm.org\/genocide-prevention\/countries\/china\/chinese-persecution-of-the-uyghurs\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Mass Detention<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2018\/09\/china-up-to-one-million-detained\/\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Reeducation Camps<\/em><\/a>, where Uyghur Muslims face <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/autos\/volkswagen-joint-venture-partner-sell-chinese-plant-97c7e1a3?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Forced Assimilation<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/autos\/volkswagen-joint-venture-partner-sell-chinese-plant-97c7e1a3?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Cultural Genocide<\/em><\/a>\u00a0through CCP indoctrination and Uyghur language bans.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-h5ymh122\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\">After &#8220;reeducation,&#8221; Uyghurs are subjected to forced labor in cotton fields and factories, amounting to slavery. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/forced-labor-in-chinas-xinjiang-region\/\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Forced Labor<\/em><\/a> in Han Chinese or CCP owned factories is Chinese state policy. Global scrutiny of supply chains linked to Xinjiang factories resulted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2024\/12\/02\/volkswagens-china-joint-venture-exit-xinjiang\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Volkswagen&#8217;s exit from Urumqi<\/em><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-swhzr130\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justsecurity.org\/74388\/genocide-against-the-uyghurs-legal-grounds-for-the-united-states-bipartisan-genocide-determination\/\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\">Family planning policies<\/a>\u00a0restrict Uyghur births, violating Article 2(d) of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justsecurity.org\/72074\/how-china-is-violating-human-rights-treaties-and-its-own-constitution-in-xinjiang\/\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\">Genocide Convention<\/a>. Researcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-china-53220713\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\">Adrian Zenz<\/a>\u00a0found that Uyghur population growth dropped 84% from 2015 to 2018. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justsecurity.org\/71615\/chinas-forced-sterilization-of-uyghur-women-violates-clear-international-law\/\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Forced Sterilization<\/em><\/a>, forced abortions, and restrictive birth control policies suppress Uyghur population growth. They violate Article 2(d) of the Genocide Convention. This persecution is also a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/report\/2021\/04\/19\/break-their-lineage-break-their-roots\/chinas-crimes-against-humanity-targeting\" class=\"_5ircq hUrEg\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><em>Crime against Humanity.<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-8b514142\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\">Uyghur children are removed from their homes and placed in Mandarin-only schools. Removal of children is genocide, violating Article 2(e) of the Genocide Convention.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-1ymsw146\" class=\"Hasdr P8FAI _18oPJ DWkY9\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"I47Iv\"><strong>Genocide Watch<\/strong>\u00a0considers the CCP&#8217;s repression of freedom of movement and religion, and its Orwellian surveillance of Uyghurs as <strong>Stage 3: Discrimination.<\/strong> The CCP&#8217;s torture and imprisonment of Uyghurs into \u201cre-education camps\u201d is <strong>Stage 8: Persecution<\/strong>. Mass rape of women inside and outside these camps and CCP removal of Uyghur children is <strong>Stage 9: Extermination,<\/strong>\u00a0violation of the Genocide Convention.
