21 Dec 2025\u00a0<\/em>–\u00a0Israel\u2019s Cabinet on Sunday finalized approval of 19 new Jewish-only settler colonies in the illegally occupied West Bank<\/a>, a move the apartheid<\/a> state\u2019s far-right finance minister said was aimed at thwarting Palestinian statehood.<\/p>\n

Cabinet ministers approved the legalization of the previously unauthorized settler outposts throughout the occupied Palestinian territory, bringing the total number of new settlements in recent years to 69.<\/p>\n

The move will bring the overall total number of exclusively or overwhelmingly Jewish settlements\u2014which are illegal under international law\u2014to more than 200, up from around 140 just three years ago.<\/p>\n

Included in the new approval are two former settlements\u2014Kadim and Ganim\u2014that were evacuated in compliance with the now effectively repealed 2005 Disengagement Law<\/a>, under which Israel dismantled all of its colonies in the Gaza<\/a> Strip and four in the West Bank.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is righting a historic injustice of expulsion from 20 years ago,\u201d Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich\u2014who is a settler\u2014said<\/a> on Sunday. \u201cWe are putting the brakes on the rise of a Palestinian terror state.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to develop, build, and settle the inherited land of our ancestors, with faith in the righteousness of our path,\u201d Smotrich added.<\/p>\n
