I just saw
\nthe most civilized scene of the war.<\/p>\n

A cemetery.
\nNeatly organized.
\nEfficient.<\/p>\n

More than 160 schoolgirls<\/strong>.
\nTen years old.
\nSome younger.<\/p>\n

The Birds of paradise –<\/em><\/p>\n

Da\u2019am\u012bs al-Jannah<\/em><\/p>\n

The graves are small.
\nVery small.
\nBecause apparently the future
\ncomes in child-size packaging<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Da\u2019am\u012bs al-Jannah<\/em><\/p>\n

They lie there now\u2014
\ntiny bodies folded into white fabrics,
\nlined up like a shipment
\nthat arrived damaged.<\/p>\n

Da\u2019am\u012bs al-Jannah<\/em><\/p>\n

Minab.
\nTwenty kilometers from the Gulf of Oman.
\nAn ordinary school morning
\ninterrupted by the sound
\nof precision democracy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You see,
\nwhen bombs fall from advanced civilizations
\nthey are called strategic errors<\/strong>,
\nnever what they actually are.<\/p>\n

Da\u2019am\u012bs al-Jannah<\/em><\/p>\n

Somewhere
\na father woke up this morning
\nto silence in his daughter\u2019s room.<\/p>\n

Somewhere
\na mother is still holding
\na pair of shoes
\nthat will never grow.<\/p>\n

Da\u2019am\u012bs al-Jannah<\/em><\/p>\n

But don\u2019t worry.<\/p>\n

UNESCO has tweeted its shock.<\/strong>
\nThe algorithm has registered sadness.
\nDiplomacy is deeply concerned.<\/p>\n

The palaces say
\nthere might be an investigation
\nto determine whether the bomb
\nbelonged to them.<\/p>\n

Apparently, missiles
\nsometimes wander off
\nlike confused tourists.<\/p>\n

The Kings say nothing<\/p>\n

The princes say nothing<\/p>\n

Presidents say nothing.
\nThe Prime Ministers say nothing.<\/p>\n

Silence,
\nthe most reliable weapon
\nin international politics.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile
\nWestern media holds a panel discussion:<\/p>\n

\u201cAre 160 dead children fake news?\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Because the first reflex
\nof modern journalism
\nis not grief.<\/p>\n

It is verification of the inconvenience<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Imagine the opposite scene\u2014
\n160 little girls
\nunder the soil of Paris
\nor London
\nor Boston.<\/p>\n

The sky would tear open with outrage.
\nFlags would tremble.
\nTelevision studios would cry
\nfor weeks.<\/p>\n

But geography
\nis the oldest editor in the newsroom.<\/p>\n

Some children die
\nas tragedies.<\/p>\n

Others die
\nas footnotes.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Quite symbolic: the entity\u2019s first strike
\nfalls on the children\u2014
\nas if to say,
\nyou are the last generation
\nallowed to breathe on this land.<\/em><\/p>\n

Da\u2019am\u012bs al-Jannah<\/em><\/p>\n

And those beautiful humanitarian principles
\nwe hear about so often\u2014<\/p>\n

they are like curtains
\nin the palace of power.<\/p>\n

Pulled open
\nwhen the light is flattering.<\/p>\n

Closed quickly
\nwhen the room is covered in blood.<\/p>\n

But tonight
\nthose 160 small bodies
\nhave torn the fabric.<\/p>\n

For a moment
\nthe mask slipped.<\/p>\n

And behind the speeches
\nbehind the values
\nbehind the press conferences<\/p>\n

we saw it clearly:<\/p>\n

Humanism
\nwith a price tag.<\/p>\n

Empathy
\nwith export restrictions.<\/p>\n

And children
\nwho had the terrible mistake
\nof being born
\non the wrong side
\nof the moral map.<\/p>\n

After that,<\/p>\n

nothing
\nsurprises me anymore.<\/p>\n
