23 May 2026\u00a0<\/em>– France has decided to ban Israel’s \u200bfar-right police minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from \u200cFrench territory, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said today, adding that this reflected growing anger among governments around \u200bthe world over the treatment of an \u200bactivist flotilla heading to Gaza<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“As from today, Itamar Ben-Gvir is \u2060banned from entering French territory,” Barrot wrote on X.<\/p>\n

“Along \u200bwith my Italian counterpart, I am asking \u200bthe European Union to also take sanctions against Itamar Ben-Gvir.”<\/p>\n

Western governments expressed outrage<\/a> after Ben-Gvir posted a video \u200bof himself taunting activists who had intended to \u200bbring humanitarian aid to Gaza<\/a>being pinned to the ground. Some later \u200calleged \u2060they had been physically assaulted in detention, allegations that Israel’s prison service denied.<\/p>\n

Ben-Gvir was rebuked by both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the United \u200bStates, Israel’s \u200bstaunchest ally. \u2060Netanyahu said Ben-Gvir’s conduct was “not in line with Israel’s values and \u200bnorms”.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Ben-Gvir did not \u200bimmediately \u2060reply to a request for a comment on the French decision.<\/p>\n

The activists, whose vessels \u2060were \u200bintercepted this week in international \u200bwaters by the Israeli navy, have been deported from Israel.<\/p>\n
