July 2026\u00a0<\/em>– In September 2025, a U.N. Commission Report<\/a>\u00a0concluded that Israel has committed four of the five acts of genocide<\/a>\u00a0in the Genocide Convention<\/a>. Yet Israel has continued its atrocities<\/a>\u00a0against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

1.9 million people<\/a>\u00a0have been internally displaced as Israeli forces continue to destroy high-rise residential buildings<\/a>. Evacuation directives<\/a>\u00a0from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) designate entire districts as active combat zones. Israel persists in its ceasefire violations<\/a>\u00a0and pushes the demarcation line<\/a>\u00a0for Israeli control ever westward<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Israel\u2019s campaign began<\/a>\u00a0after October 7, 2023<\/a>, in response<\/a>\u00a0to Hamas\u2019 genocidal attacks on Israeli civilians<\/a>, which killed over 1200 Israelis and kidnapped 251 Israeli hostages.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Israel continues <\/a>to commit acts that constitute genocide<\/a>: killing Palestinians; bombing hospitals<\/a>\u00a0to inflict conditions of life intended to destroy<\/a>\u00a0part of the Palestinian people; causing severe bodily and mental harm<\/a>\u00a0with bombing throughout Gaza and severe mistreatment in detention, including rape and torture; and imposing measures to prevent births<\/a>\u00a0through attacks on maternity centres <\/a>in hospitals<\/a>\u00a0and destruction of Gaza\u2019s largest fertility clinic.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Israeli Military Campaign has killed of over 73,000 Gazans, 80% civilians<\/a>,\u00a0and wounded <\/a>over 173,000 Gazans<\/a>\u00a0through intense combat operations, producing wounds typically seen only among professional soldiers. Israeli snipers have killed hundreds of Palestinians in queues for food<\/a>, including children shot in the head or back.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Displaced Gazans face overcrowding and inadequate shelters<\/a>\u00a0in tents without proper protection<\/a>. In conjunction with Israeli bans on international NGOs<\/a>, many are unable to afford tents or other basic necessities.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Displaced Palestinians in Southern Gaza <\/a>are confined to overcrowded areas that lack basic sanitation, forcing families to build makeshift shelters and dig unsanitary latrines behind tents. Civilians are ordered to leave combat zones, many in private cars, causing severe fuel shortages<\/a>, leaving many Gazans unable to move despite evacuation orders.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Israel and Hamas agreed<\/a>\u00a0to the\u00a0first phase of a ceasefire<\/a>\u00a0and hostage exchange plan\u00a0on October 9, 2025, mediated by the United States. Hamas committed to release<\/a>\u00a0all remaining living hostages and the bodies of deceased hostages, and to hand over authority in Gaza<\/a>. Hamas refuses to yield areas it controls<\/a>. Israel agreed to free 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and to begin withdrawing forces to a demarcated \u201cyellow line\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in Gaza. Israel expanded its area of control<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Israel\u2019s initial withdrawal left over 50% of Gaza under Israeli control, expanding to over 70%<\/a>\u00a0of Gaza as of June 2026<\/a>. Israeli airstrikes have continued<\/a>. Civilians face deadly sniper fire when they cross unclear boundaries. Recent air strikes<\/a>\u00a0have killed whole families,\u00a0including\u00a0children. Humanitarian aid\u00a0is limited by Israeli entry-point restrictions<\/a>. Gaza continues to be devastated by forced displacement<\/a>, hunger<\/a>, and destroyed infrastructure<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Plans have been proposed to rebuild Gaza under President Trump\u2019s <\/a>\u201cBoard of Peace\u201d (BoP)<\/a>, authorized by Security Council Resolution 2803.<\/a>\u00a0The BoP pact doesn\u2019t mention Gaza and doesn\u2019t include a Palestinian role in the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, which includes \u201cdemilitarisation, technocratic governance and reconstruction.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Prime Minister Netanyahu\u2019s position on the Board of Peace raises deep concerns about bias in the peace and reconstruction process. At the BoP\u2019s inaugural meeting<\/a>, <\/a>held in Washington in February 2026, the US pledged $10 billion and other member countries pledged $7 billion for reconstruction. But no pledged money has been collected.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Due to intentional killing of Palestinian civilians<\/a>, massive destruction of housing and hospitals<\/a>, officially expressed intent to destroy<\/a>\u00a0part of the Palestinian population of Gaza, and official Israeli government denial<\/a>, Genocide Watch considers Gaza to be at Stage 8: Persecution<\/strong>, Stage 9: Extermination,<\/strong> and Stage 10: Denial.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
