I scurry around the city
\nintoning my anti-war poems
\nat peace rallies and poetry readings,
\nbut so far have never prevented a war.<\/p>\n

I can’t keep trying forever,
\nand need some help
\nfrom Washington, Baghdad,
\nor Xanadu.<\/p>\n

Rhyme or blank verse,
\nconventional or nuclear\u2014
\nwhatever works.<\/p>\n

Rank it out by the ton,
\ndrop it on people all over the world.
\nIt will daze and pacify them,
\nmaybe even enlighten some.
\nInspection teams can verify the results.<\/p>\n

Never let it be said
\nthat we desperate poets didn’t try.
