Once at the White House, 400 youths were arrested while participating in a nonviolent civil disobedience sit-in. This protest was the largest youth act of civil disobedience at the White House in a generation.<\/p>\n<p>As the fight over the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline seems be <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2014\/02\/27\/state-department-cleared-conflict-of-interest-keystone-xl-report\/\"  target=\"_blank\">accelerating towards a final decision<\/a>, protestors have turned up the heat on President Obama to reject the project as this major, youth-led protest,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/xldissent.org\/\"  target=\"_blank\">XL Dissent<\/a>, took over the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the fight to stop KXL enters its final stages, it\u2019s truly inspiring to see young people at the forefront,\u201d said Bill McKibben, founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.350.org\"  target=\"_blank\">350.org<\/a>. \u201cThis pipeline is scheduled to last 40 years\u2014right through the prime of their lives. President Obama needs to look them in the face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The young people represented more than 50 colleges and universities taking action in solidarity with groups on the frontlines of dirty energy expansion and climate impacts, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2014\/01\/14\/neil-young-on-anti-tar-sands-tour\/\"  target=\"_blank\">First Nations<\/a> and refining communities, <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2014\/02\/21\/msnbcs-ed-show-keystone-xl-pipeline\/\"  target=\"_blank\">ranchers and farmers along the route<\/a>, and those fighting <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/category\/news\/energy-news\/oil-tar-sands\/\"  target=\"_blank\">tar sands<\/a> expansion in Michigan and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe construction of Keystone XL will be \u2018game over\u2019 on the climate front, as climatologist Jim Hansen has stated,\u201d said Conor Kennedy on the XL Dissent website. \u201cMost of us understand that we have reached the tipping point.
