Photograph: Ahmad Gharabli\/AFP\/Getty Images<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>5 Sep 2014 &#8211; <\/em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/israel\" >Israel<\/a> has published tenders to build 283 homes in a West Bank settlement, days after announcing its biggest land grab on occupied Palestinian territory for three decades.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion of the Elkana settlement, in the north-west of the West Bank, was approved in January and the tenders were published on Thursday, Israel&#8217;s land authority said.<\/p>\n<p>It came after Israel announced its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2014\/sep\/01\/israeli-settlement-west-bank-gvaot-condemned\" >biggest land grab in the West Bank<\/a> since the 1980s, saying it planned to expropriate 400 hectares (988 acres) of land in the south of the territory, between Bethlehem and Hebron.<\/p>\n<p>That move drew international condemnation, even from its staunch ally, the US, and some Israeli cabinet ministers.<\/p>\n<p>The US state department urged Israel to reverse its decision while the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, said he was alarmed by Israel&#8217;s plans.<\/p>\n<p>Israel&#8217;s settlement-building, which is illegal under international law, is seen as an obstacle to any lasting peace with the Palestinians, who want their future state to be on land, much of which Israel has annexed or built settlements on.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2014\/sep\/05\/israel-build-283-new-homes-west-bank?CMP=ema_565\" >Go to Original \u2013 theguardian.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>Join the<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> BDS-BOYCOTT, DIVESTMENT, SANCTIONS <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>campaign<\/em><\/strong><\/span> to protest the Israeli barbaric siege of Gaza, illegal occupation of the Palestine nation\u2019s territory, the apartheid wall, its inhuman and degrading treatment of the Palestinian people, and the more than 7,000 Palestinian men, women, elderly and children arbitrarily locked up in Israeli prisons.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>DON&#8217;T BUY<\/strong> <strong>PRODUCTS WHOSE<\/strong> <strong>BARCODE<\/strong><strong> STARTS WITH<\/strong> <strong>729<\/strong>, which indicates that it is produced in Israel.\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>DO YOUR PART!
