\"Svoboda,\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the most notorious Ukrainian members of parliament for the far-right party \u2018Svoboda,\u2019 Yuri Michalchyshyn, quits the party so that he can become head of the propaganda and analysis of the Ukraine Security Service, SBU. Mikhalchyshyn is an open nazi apologist holding an honorary medal of the SS Division Galychna.<\/p>\n

The reason cited<\/a> for him leaving the party, after having spent some time as part of a volunteer battalion in the \u201canti terrorist operation\u201d against the Donbas, is because party membership would not be compatible with his new job in the Security Service. Mikhalchyshyn himself had suggested in July 2014 the need to establish a Ministry of Propaganda<\/a>, as part of the offensive against the Donbas.<\/p>\n

Unlike other Svoboda leaders who have at least\u00a0attempted to tone down the most extreme edges of their far right ideology, Mykhalchyshyn does not hide his \u201cradical\u201d views and Nazi sympathies.<\/p>\n

In May this year he advocated the use of\u00a0air strikes<\/a> against Sloviansk to turn the city \u201cinto a lunar landscape\u201d in order to deal with the rebels. Civilians should be given a 48 hour ultimatum to evacuate the city, he added, but \u201cafter this, all those who remain there should\u00a0not be considered civilians, but\u00a0supporters of terrorists or terrorists themselves. Then you need to close the area and eliminate all gangsters.\u201d<\/p>\n

In April this year, he run through the floor of the Rada to assault Communist Party leader Simonenko who was addressing parliament and physically ejected him from the rostrum:<\/p>\n

In 2013, during the celebration\u00a0of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the SS Galicia division of Ukranian volunteers in the nazi ranks, Mykhalchyshyn received a commemorative medal<\/a>. The SS Galicia Division, together with the Ukrainian Insurgent Army carried out genocide against the Jews and a brutal ethnic cleansing of the local Polish population during WWII.<\/p>\n

Describing himself variously as \u201cautonomous nationalist\u201d, \u201csocial-revolutionary\u201d, \u201csocial-nationalist\u201d or \u201crevolutionary national-socialist\u201d,\u00a0Mykhalchyshyn, from Lviv, is one of Svoboda\u2019s main ideologues.<\/p>\n

His PhD thesis<\/a> was on \u201cTransforming the political movement into a mass political party of a new type as an example NSDAP and PNF (comparative analysis)\u201d.\u00a0In 2005,\u00a0he organized a political think tank, originally called \u201cthe Joseph Goebbels\u00a0Political Research Center\u201d but later re-named after the German conservative revolutionary Ernst J\u00fcnger. He also edited\u00a0the openly neo-nazi \u201cBonfire \u2013 national revolutionary journal\u201d<\/a>\u00a0including a special compilation of classic texts of nazi ideology under the heading of \u201cVarta 1.0<\/a>\u201d which was really a guide to\u00a0national-socialism, including the\u00a0program\u00a0of German nazi party NSDAP.<\/p>\n

In Varta he describes the tradition he adheres to thus:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur banner carriers and heroes are Evhen\u2019 Konovalets, Stepan Bandera,\u00a0Roman Shukhevych, Horst Wessel and Walter Stennes, Jose Antanio\u00a0Primo de Rivera and Leon Degrelle, Corneliu Codreanu and Oswald\u00a0Mosley\u201d<\/p>\n

to which he adds:<\/p>\n

\u201ctraditional Ukrainian integral nationalism (Dmytro Dontsov, Iuryi Lypa,\u00a0Mykola Stsibors\u2019kyi, Dmytro Myron-Orlyk, Stepan Bandera) Ukrainian\u00a0social-nationalism (Mykola Mikhnovs\u2019kyi, Yaroslav Stets\u2019ko, Stepan\u00a0Rudnyts\u2019kyi, the platform of the journal SNPU\u00a0Orientyry\u00a0in the late\u00a01990s); the conceptual arsenal of the German conservative revolution\u00a0(Ernst J\u00fcnger, Arthur Moeller van den Bruck, Oswald Spengler, OttoStrasser, Carl Schmitt); Italian integral corporativism (Giuseppe Bottai,Ugo Spirito, Sergio Panunzio).\u201d (Our Fire<\/em>\u00a0http:\/\/www.vatra.cc\/nasha-vatra)<\/p>\n

In a speech in 2011 he described the Holocaust as a \u201cparticularly bright period of European history\u201d (see:\u00a0http:\/\/uainfo.org\/heading\/accident\/2531-mihalchishin-schitaet-holokost-svetlym-periodom-v-istorii-evropy.html). In the same year he lead a group of nazi skinheads which clashed with Soviet Army veterans celebrating victory day in Lviv:<\/p>\n

This is the man who is now going to be put in charge of the Department for Propaganda and Analysis of the Ukrainian Secret Service \u2026<\/p>\n
