Most people thought by now that I’d at least
\nhave stopped the fighting in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
It’s true that I succeeded once before
\nback when I brought an end to the Cold War,
\nbut I must offer my apology:
\nI’ve failed to stop the current tragedy.<\/p>\n
I strove to do that, but I will confess
\nit seems I’ve only added to the mess.<\/p>\n
I try and try, but cannot break the curse,
\nand as you see, it steadily gets worse.<\/p>\n
We know, alas, that I’m no macho cop
\nwho forcefully makes perpetrators stop.<\/p>\n
Instead, I dazzle, wheedle and beguile,
\nand thus make scowling adversaries smile.<\/p>\n
So rest assured, I’ll find some clever way
\nand you’ll discover on one happy day,
\nperhaps as early as this coming week,
\nthat I’ve created that rare peace you seek.
