The bloc of Latin American and Caribbean countries condemn the new U.S. sanctions against Venezuela and demand Washington end its Cuba embargo.<\/em><\/p>\n

With the 13th summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA)<\/a> concluding\u00a0Sunday [14 Dec 2014], the bloc of left-leaning Latin American and Caribbean countries\u00a0strongly\u00a0rejected\u00a0U.S.\u00a0interference\u00a0on the region, particularly in light of new sanctions announced against Venezuela this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the Havana meeting, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of the alliance\u2019s founding<\/a>, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro read the final declaration, which\u00a0criticized\u00a0Washington\u2019s attempts to destabilize progressive governments\u00a0through sanctions, blockades and espionage among others.<\/p>\n

The statement also\u00a0demanded the\u00a0end of\u00a0the U.S.\u00a0economic blockade on Cuba.<\/p>\n

ALBA countries expressed support to non-member Argentina in its fight against vulture fund creditors, and slammed the interference of U.S. courts in Argentina\u2019s sovereign debt issues.<\/p>\n

The bloc\u00a0also backed\u00a0the Venezuelan government in its struggle to\u00a0against\u00a0destabilization efforts, including the economic sabotage undertaken by right-wing sectors through\u00a0underproduction, hoarding and speculation.<\/p>\n

The leaders of the 12-member organization reaffirmed their commitment to solidarity integration and cooperation in the expansion of the trade bloc. At the meeting, the Caribbean nations\u00a0of\u00a0Saint Kitts and Nevis\u00a0and Grenada\u00a0were\u00a0accepted\u00a0into\u00a0ALBA\u00a0as members.<\/p>\n
