Once again, an anti-Islam organization has bought ads on San Francisco buses, this time comparing\u00a0Islam to Nazis. <\/em><\/p>\n

15 Jan 2015 – <\/em>An Islamophobic group has bought ads on San Francisco city buses that show pictures of Adolf Hitler and compare the religion of Islam to Nazis.<\/p>\n

The ads were purchased by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) and feature Hitler and Haj Amin al-Husseini, a 20th century Palestinian.<\/p>\n

The ads claim, \u201cIslamic Jew-Hatred: It\u2019s in The Quran.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ads began to appear on Jan. 9 [2015], just days after the massacre in France<\/a>, where attacks on the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo<\/a> and a supermarket killed 17 people.<\/p>\n

The Southern Poverty Law Center lists the AFDI as a hate group.<\/p>\n

Pam Geller, the head of AFDI, says that the ads are the \u201conly way to leapfrog over the media \u2026 It’s the only way to talk directly to the American people.”<\/p>\n

Spokesperson for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Paul Rose said in a statement, “… the First Amendment protects freedom of speech, including speech that is considered offensive \u2026 Refusing placement would almost certainly result in a lawsuit that forces the city to run the ads under court order, and we believe taxpayer dollars should be used to improve transit and the overall transportation network; not on lawsuits.”<\/p>\n

In 2013, AFDI bought ads on 10 buses that featured photos of Osama bin Laden, a victim of a mass shooting and others, with inflammatory quotes linking them to Islam. One quote the group alleged was from \u201cHamas MTV\u201d read: \u201cKilling Jews is worship that brings us closer to Allah.\u201d<\/p>\n

City leaders condemned these ads and the municipal bus system donated the money from the ads to human rights organizations.<\/p>\n
