Edmund spends his lonely hours
\neach evening: the news channel
\nplays relentlessly in the kitchen,
\nin a steel framed TV, next to a
\npot of white lilies;
\nthey bring foreign stories every hour
\nappealing enough to fly him back
\nto the rubbles of Basra as he
\ndetests cooking yet another year,
\nyet another day, in his vacant life
\nto feed his resolute stomach, even on
\ndiseased afternoons when antibiotic gas
\nburps out of his throat, defeats
\nhis mind to sleep.<\/p>\n
Some times he sits on bamboo floor,
\non a cream cushion and stares
\nat the brick-floored gullies of his life:
\nrusty, pariah and deaf; and before
\nsinking into an engulfing emptiness,
\nhe begins to hope that one day,
\nkamikaze, the divine wind sent by
\nSun Goddess will blow his way,
\nand fill his futile life with visitors.<\/p>\n
But it needs no introspection that
\nkamikaze never came for the Japanese
\nyoung men in their teens and twenties
\nwho left their families and rallied
\nfor war, only to return
\nto a suspended hollowness, and
\nuranium burnt bodies.<\/p>\n
Kamikaze never comes,
\nexcept for some soldiers in USA military:
\nthey win every war, even when
\nthey explode babies and grandmothers,
\nwhilst their tanks play songs, inspire them,<\/p>\n
