25 Mar 2015 – <\/em>Just days after the World Health Organization\u2019s\u00a0International Agency for Research on Cancer released a report<\/a> publicly declaring the well-known link between Monsanto\u2019s Roundup herbicide and cancer<\/a>, the GMO leviathan is already calling on the entire agency to issue a \u2018retraction.\u2019<\/p>\n

Recently,\u00a0Monsanto\u2019s Roundup herbicide \u2013\u00a0the most widely used and best-selling herbicide in the U.S. and one of the world\u2019s most popular weed-killers \u2013 has been labeled<\/a> a probable carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Now Monsanto is fighting that assessment.<\/p>\n

As reported by<\/a> The Lancet<\/em>:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn March, 2015, 17 experts from 11 countries met at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC; Lyon, France) to assess the carcinogenicity of the organophosphate pesticides tetrachlorvinphos, parathion, malathion, diazinon, and glyphosate (table). These assessments will be published as volume 112 of the IARC Monographs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Instead of deciding to make the product safer, or even delving into the realm of the conclusion from the scientists that Roundup is \u2018probably carcinogenic (cancer-causing) to humans,\u2019 Monsanto instead stated that they \u2018question\u2019 the assessment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe question the quality of the assessment,\u201dthe\u00a0vice president of global regulatory affairs for Monsanto,\u00a0Philip Miller, stated in an interview.\u00a0 \u201cThe WHO has something to explain.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

I think Monsanto has something to explain. And so do many scientific experts around the globe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a number of independent, published manuscripts that clearly indicate that glyphosate \u2026 can promote cancer and tumor growth,\u201d said<\/a> Dave Schubert, from\u00a0the cellular neurobiology laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California. \u201cIt should be banned.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Numerous past\u00a0studies have proposed<\/a>\u00a0what most of us have already surmised, that glyphosate \u2013 the main ingredient in Monsanto\u2019s RoundUp \u2013\u00a0is utterly killing us.<\/strong> What\u2019s more \u2013 it is causing damage\u00a0in much smaller servings<\/a> than the agriculture industry is dishing out in its common GMO and pesticide spraying practices.<\/p>\n

With the already existing plethora of research pointing towards Roundup\u2019s dangers, as well as this most recent assessment from the WHO, I think we have reason enough to find a better way to stop weeds.<\/p>\n
