Scientists have <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/08\/fukushima-worse-than-you-know.html\" >no idea where the cores<\/a> of the nuclear reactors are. Well actually, maybe they <em>have <\/em>found them \u2026 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2014\/05\/nuclear-fuel-fragment-fukushima-found-europe.html\" >scattered all over kingdom come<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In response to the Fukushima crisis, Japan <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/11\/japan-reacts-fukushima-crisis-banning-journalism.html\" >banned journalism<\/a>, and Japan has once again <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/12\/japanese-senator-shouts-way-reign-terror-begins-physically-restrained.html\" >gone fascist<\/a>.\u00a0 If the heads of Fukushima are publicly telling mainstream media <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www3.nhk.or.jp\/nhkworld\/english\/news\/features\/201503312108.html\" >such as NHK<\/a> that things are bad \u2013 and the government is letting them do it \u2013 you know things are really bad \u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2012\/10\/fixing-fukushima-is-beyond-current-technology.html\" >reported<\/a>\u00a0in 2012 that top nuclear experts say that the technology doesn\u2019t yet even\u00a0exist\u00a0to clean up Fukushima.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the head of the Fukushima nuclear plant\u00a0and\u00a0the head of decommissioning at Fukushima both say that the technology doesn\u2019t exist to clean up Fukushima, and it may not exist for hundreds of years \u2026 if ever.<\/p>\n<p>The Times of London\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/news\/world\/asia\/article4394978.ece\" >reported<\/a>\u00a0last month:<\/p>\n<p><em>The chief of the Fukushima nuclear power station has admitted that\u00a0<strong>the technology needed to decommission three melted-down reactors does not exist, and he has no idea how it will be developed<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In a stark reminder of the challenge facing the Japanese authorities, Akira Ono conceded that the stated goal of decommissioning the plant by 2051 may be impossible without a giant technological leap.\u00a0<strong>\u201cThere are so many uncertainties involved. We need to develop many, many technologies,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Mr. Ono said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>EneNews\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/enenews.com\/times-worst-possible-result-revealed-fukushima-plant-chief-centuries-pass-before-humans-invent-deal-molten-fuel-videos\" >notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www3.nhk.or.jp\/nhkworld\/english\/news\/features\/201503312108.html\" >NHK \u2018Nuclear Watch\u2019 transcript<\/a>, Mar 31, 2015 (emphasis added):<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>NHK: The people trying to decommission the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant have been hit by setback after setback\u2026 and faced accusations of misconduct. It\u2019s lost them a lot of public trust\u2026\u00a0<strong>[Naohiro Masuda, president of Tepco\u2019s decommissioning company] revealed he\u2019s not sure if he can comply with the government set plan [for] removing the fuel<\/strong>\u2026<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Naohiro Masuda, president of Tepco\u2019s Fukushima Daiichi Decommissioning Company: We have no idea about the debris. We don\u2019t know its shape or strength. We have to remove it remotely from 30 meters above, but\u00a0<strong>we don\u2019t have that kind of technology<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>it simply doesn\u2019t exist<\/strong>\u2026\u00a0<strong>We still don\u2019t know whether it\u2019s possible to fill the reactor containers with water<\/strong>.<strong>We\u2019ve found some cracks and holes<\/strong>in the three damaged\u00a0<strong>container vessels<\/strong>, but we\u00a0<strong>don\u2019t know if we found them all<\/strong>. If it turns out there are other holes, we might have to look for some other way to remove the debris.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>NHK: Asked [about the gov\u2019t target to begin by 2020], his answer was surprisingly candid.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Masuda: It\u2019s a very big challenge. Honestly speaking,\u00a0<strong>I cannot say it\u2019s possible<\/strong>.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bXtvw2YCyM4&amp;feature=player_detailpage#t=1440\" >Dale Klein, Tepco Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee chair<\/a>, Mar 31, 2015 (at 24:00 in):<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Richard Lloyd Parry, The Times: I was at the plant last week on the tour and we talked Mr. Ono, the boss. He made no bones about\u00a0<strong>the fact that the technology\u2026 to remove the molten or semi-molten fuel doesn\u2019t exist yet<\/strong>\u2026 I asked him how can you be sure that it will be, and he said, \u201cWell, 200 years ago people would never have dreamed of bullet trains or mobile phones, but they exist.\u201d That seems to be the scale of the leap\u2026 that\u2019s going to be required. So\u00a0<strong>there must be immense uncertainties<\/strong>around that\u2026\u00a0<strong>There must surely be a chance that it won\u2019t work out<\/strong>, and that the\u00a0<strong>eventual solution<\/strong>\u00a0will be something like the Chernobyl solution\u2026\u00a0<strong>a sarcophagus<\/strong>\u00a0of some kind\u00a0<strong>sealing in the 3 plants<\/strong>\u2026<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Klein: This is something that has never been done\u2026 Units 1, 2, and 3\u2026 molten fuel penetrated the bottom of the vessel\u2026 We don\u2019t
