He derived his pen name from the Czech poet Jan Neruda. He won the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nobel_Prize_for_Literature\" >Nobel Prize for Literature<\/a> in 1971. Neruda became known as a poet when he was 10 years old. He wrote in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, overtly political manifestos, a prose autobiography, and erotically charged love poems such as the ones in his collection <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Twenty_Love_Poems_and_a_Song_of_Despair\" >Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair<\/a> (1942). He often wrote in green ink, which was his personal symbol for desire and hope<\/em>.
