July 23 2015 – <\/em>During\u00a0a discussion yesterday<\/a> in Aspen with even-more-sycophantic-than-usual CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, FBI Director James Comey somberly warned<\/a> that ISIS now officially poses a bigger threat to the\u00a0\u201cU.S. homeland\u201d than the one posed by former\u00a0title-holder\u00a0Al Qaeda \u2014 because, of course, the Latest Threat must always be the Greatest Threat. Comey also said\u00a0that the previous\u00a0bigger-than-Al-Qaeda<\/em> contender, \u201cThe Khorasan Group,\u201d<\/a> has been \u201cdiminished\u201d by \u201cthe work done by our great military\u201d\u00a0\u2014 because the War on Terror narrative requires that\u00a0it must always\u00a0be somehow simultaneously true that (1) the Terror Threat facing Americans is Greater Than Ever\u2122<\/a>\u00a0and (2) U.S. military actions against Terrorism are succeeding.<\/p>\n

To commemorate this official FBI warning and to accompany the AP \u201cnews article\u201d<\/a> about Comey\u2019s proclamation, NBC News posted\u00a0a two-minute video, which . . . . well, which you have just have to see to believe. Watch it here<\/a>: It\u2019s very worth seeing.<\/p>\n

Think about what happened here: To dramatize ISIS as The New Greatest Threat to the Homeland, FBI Director\u00a0Comey first\u00a0summoned\u00a0the TV-actor-who-plays-the-journalist-character-called-Wolf-Blitzer to Aspen, and then NBC News posted to the top of its news article a slick, scary, music-and-graphic-driven video using all of Hollywood\u2019s horror film staples to provide the visceral kick (that video has now been replaced on the NBC page\u00a0with a video of this morning\u2019s Matt Lauer\/TODAY show \u201cbreaking news!\u201d segment hyping\u00a0Comey\u2019s warning). I\u2019m really grateful that because Americans have a free press, we\u2019re not subject to state propaganda the way people in those bad, unfortunate countries are.<\/p>\n
