{"id":62225,"date":"2015-08-17T12:00:59","date_gmt":"2015-08-17T11:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=62225"},"modified":"2015-08-07T13:34:06","modified_gmt":"2015-08-07T12:34:06","slug":"on-altruism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2015\/08\/on-altruism\/","title":{"rendered":"On Altruism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Rhymed Reflections<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In a world of \u00a0-isms we live:<br \/>\nsome -isms make us \u00a0sad,<br \/>\nother -isms \u00a0make \u00a0us \u00a0glad<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Among the positive -isms in which Humankind can excel<br \/>\nthere is one which \u00a0has to do \u00a0with treating others well<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Such -ism \u00a0is \u00a0a \u00a0deep, true \u00a0-ism<br \/>\nWhat is it called: \u00a0ALTRUISM<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Being altruistic calls for humility<br \/>\nIt is a commitment to serving Humanity<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">ALTRUISM \u00a0Humankind`s selflessness enhances<br \/>\nBy acting altruistically, as DIGNIFIERS a community advances<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">ALTRUISM \u00a0is more than a top-priority global need:<br \/>\nIt is both a life-improving force and a spiritually strengthening seed<br \/>\n________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Francisco Gomes de Matos, Ph.D. is an applied peace linguist from Recife, Brazil. He has degrees in Languages, Law, and Linguistics. He is Professor Emeritus at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco where he is active in the Dom H\u00e9lder Camara Human Rights Commission. He is one of the pioneers in Linguistic Rights (author of 1984 <\/em>Plea for a Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights)<em> and in the emerging area of Peace Linguistics.
