Simes and former US Ambassador Richard Burt note, adding that while the world is becoming more complex, American high-ranking interventionists continue to\u00a0promote a bundle of\u00a0policies \u2013 &#8220;regime change, top-down democratization, militarized nation building and counterinsurgency warfare&#8221; \u2013 which have proved ineffective.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The shared assumption among\u00a0neoconservatives and liberal interventionists about\u00a0American unipolarity \u2013 that all it takes for\u00a0US power to\u00a0reshape the world is the exercise of\u00a0the necessary will \u2013 is ever more in\u00a0conflict with\u00a0the main forces at\u00a0work in\u00a0the international system today,&#8221; the experts pointed out\u00a0in their article published by\u00a0the National Interest.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The result (in the Middle East in\u00a0particular) is a generation of\u00a0American intervention that has done more harm than\u00a0good,&#8221; the experts added.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, ignoring Einstein&#8217;s ingenious concept that insanity is &#8220;trying the same thing over\u00a0and over\u00a0again with\u00a0the expectation of\u00a0getting a different result,&#8221; some Washington policy makers are suggesting to\u00a0launch an offensive against\u00a0Bashar al-Assad in\u00a0Syria and aggravating further tensions with\u00a0Moscow over\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>To complicate matters further the triumphalists continue to\u00a0dominate the US&#8217; foreign-policy discourse, while the clouds begin to\u00a0gather on\u00a0America&#8217;s horizon and the country faces new emerging challenges.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0the experts, one of\u00a0the most serious challenges for\u00a0the United States is the rise of\u00a0China. Although China has its own &#8220;weaknesses,&#8221; it is highly unlikely that Beijing will face the fate of\u00a0the USSR. &#8220;Its economy is far stronger than\u00a0the Soviet Union&#8217;s was in\u00a0the 1980s,&#8221; and its pragmatic leader Xi Jinping is not an &#8220;inept, romantic Gorbachev-type.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In this light a Sino-Russian rapprochement prompts growing concerns among\u00a0US geo-strategists, including well-known American diplomat and political scientist Henry Kissinger.<\/p>\n<p>Citing prominent Chinese expert Yan Xuetong, Burt and Simes pointed out\u00a0that although Moscow and Beijing &#8220;staunchly deny&#8221; that their alliance is &#8220;directed against\u00a0anyone else,&#8221; it is &#8220;impossible&#8221; for\u00a0the Sino-Russian collaboration to &#8220;not influence the outside\u00a0world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;China and Russia, acting as\u00a0a magnet for\u00a0forces of &#8216;the rest,&#8217; are already beginning to\u00a0build a new economic infrastructure as\u00a0a complement and eventually an alternative to\u00a0the Western-controlled international financial system,&#8221; the experts stressed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While Sino-Russian plans to\u00a0build an alternative security coalition are in\u00a0the &#8220;embryonic stage,&#8221; such a possibility cannot be excluded, they warned.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The big question facing the United States at\u00a0this critical junction, then, is whether we can pursue a mix of\u00a0policies with\u00a0China, with\u00a0Russia or in\u00a0the Middle East that amount to\u00a0a coherent overall strategic approach,&#8221; Burt and Simes underscored.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Put differently, if the United States is able to\u00a0find a way to\u00a0induce Moscow to\u00a0collaborate in\u00a0finding a settlement in\u00a0Ukraine and then can establish an unappealing but\u00a0strategically useful modus vivendi with\u00a0Russia,\u2026 then Washington may have the necessary focus and wherewithal to\u00a0meet the challenges of\u00a0a rising China,&#8221; the experts claimed.<\/p>\n<p>__________________________<\/p>\n<p><em>Sputnik<\/em><em>, a major new media brand with modern multimedia centers in dozens of countries, was launched on November 10, 2014.
