Via NASA.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>13 Oct 2015 &#8211; <\/em>Once again, it\u2019s the hottest year on record by far through last month, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/data.giss.nasa.gov\/gistemp\/tabledata_v3\/GLB.Ts+dSST.txt\" >NASA reports<\/a>. We\u2019re running out of headlines for this repetitive monthly warm up, but with the recent death of the legendary Yogi Berra, one of his classic lines comes to mind, \u201cIt\u2019s like deja-vu, all over again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last month was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/data.giss.nasa.gov\/gistemp\/tabledata_v3\/GLB.Ts+dSST.txt\" >second <\/a>only to 2014 for hottest September in the NASA dataset.<\/p>\n<p>With the long-term warming trend caused by human activity boosted by the short-term warming caused by the strongest El Ni\u00f1o since the big one of 1997-1998 \u2014 and with the current month, October, trending very warm \u2014 it\u2019s now a better than 99 percent chance 2015 will be the hottest calendar year on record.<\/p>\n<p>But the NASA data makes clear we\u2019ve already blown past the \u201chottest 12 months\u201d on record. Here\u2019s the 12-month moving average since 1880 (via <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/gregladen\/2015\/10\/12\/global-warming-update-for-september-2015\/\" >Greg Laden<\/a>):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NASA9-15-hottest-year-2015-environ-climate-global-warming-drought-seca2.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65163\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NASA9-15-hottest-year-2015-environ-climate-global-warming-drought-seca2.jpg\" alt=\"NASA9-15 hottest year 2015 environ climate global warming drought seca2\" width=\"638\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NASA9-15-hottest-year-2015-environ-climate-global-warming-drought-seca2.jpg 638w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NASA9-15-hottest-year-2015-environ-climate-global-warming-drought-seca2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/a>Once again, the NASA data highlights the fact there has been no actual slowdown in warming. Indeed the March <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nclimate\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/nclimate2552.html\" >study<\/a>, \u201cNear-term acceleration in the rate of temperature change\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/climate\/2015\/03\/10\/3631632\/climate-change-rate\/\" >demonstrates<\/a> the only \u201cpause\u201d has been in the long-expected speed-up of global warming. The rate of surface warming should have accelerated in the past decade, rather than stay constant.<\/p>\n<p>For those wondering how calendar year 2015 (through September) stacks up against earlier years, climate expert Dr. John Abraham amended this NASA chart:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NASA9-15-hottest-year-2015-environ-climate-global-warming-drought-seca3.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65164\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NASA9-15-hottest-year-2015-environ-climate-global-warming-drought-seca3.jpg\" alt=\"NASA9-15 hottest year 2015 environ climate global warming drought seca3\" width=\"638\" height=\"483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NASA9-15-hottest-year-2015-environ-climate-global-warming-drought-seca3.jpg 638w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/NASA9-15-hottest-year-2015-environ-climate-global-warming-drought-seca3-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>No doubt 2015 will continue warming because of rising temperatures in the east-central tropical Pacific associated with the current El Ni\u00f1o (see <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/climate\/2015\/09\/12\/3700678\/2015-hottest-year-ever-2016-hotter\/\" >here<\/a>).
