The Israeli Army has admitted that they used crop-dusters to kill hundreds of acres of Palestinian crops, claiming that it was to \u201cenable security operations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

30 Dec 2015 – <\/em>Palestinian officials have stated that over\u00a0420 acres of\u00a0land inside\u00a0the Gaza strip were damaged by\u00a0the poisons sprayed to\u00a0kill vegetation.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor years now, the IDF has unilaterally maintained a lethal \u2018no-go zone\u2019 on\u00a0the Palestinian side of\u00a0the border with\u00a0Gaza. Now, it seems, it has also implemented a \u2018no-grow zone,\u2019\u201d Michael Schaeffer Omer-Man wrote for +972.<\/p>\n

Israeli planes were seen spraying the toxins for\u00a0several days straight, destroying spinach, pea, parsley and bean crops.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aerial spraying of\u00a0herbicides and germination inhibitors was conducted in\u00a0the area along\u00a0the border fence last week in\u00a0order to\u00a0enable optimal and continuous security operations,\u201d an IDF Spokesperson told +972 on\u00a0Sunday.<\/p>\n

Along the Gaza border, there is a \u201cno go\u201d zone, where at\u00a0least 16 Palestinians have been killed and another 379 wounded for\u00a0entering. Palestinian people often claim that those shot were not actually within\u00a0the zone, and the Israeli military rarely claim any of\u00a0their victims were actually armed.<\/p>\n

The distance the \u2018no go\u2019 zone reaches varies by\u00a0area, and is often unclear. For example, farmers are allowed to\u00a0go closer to\u00a0the fence, but\u00a0it is unclear how they distinguish between\u00a0farmers, civilians, and \u201ccombatants.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpraying crop-killing pesticides, like\u00a0opening fire at\u00a0people of\u00a0all ages and gender in\u00a0the vicinity of\u00a0the fence, puts civilian lives at\u00a0risk and hurts livelihoods,\u201d Shai Grunberg, spokesperson for\u00a0Gisha, an Israeli rights group that works to\u00a0promote freedom of\u00a0movement for\u00a0Palestinians in\u00a0Gaza, told 972+. \u201cBy virtue of\u00a0Israel\u2019s substantial control of\u00a0the Gaza Strip, international law requires it to\u00a0facilitate normal life in\u00a0the Strip.\u201d<\/p>\n
