Jakob von Uexk\u00fcll belongs to a brilliant family. His grandfather was a famous Baltic-German physiologist who founded the discipline of Biosemiotics. Besides being a former Member of the European Parliament and a leader of the German Green Party, von Uexk\u00fcll himself founded both the Right Livelihood Award (sometimes called the Alternative Nobel Prize) and also the World Future Council.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we are heading for unprecedented dangers and conflicts, up to and including the end of a habitable planet in the foreseeable future, depriving all future generations of their right to life and the lives of preceding generations of meaning and purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis apocalyptic reality is the elephant in the room. Current policies threaten temperature increases triggering permafrost melting and the release of ocean methane hydrates which would make our earth unlivable, according to research presented by the British Government Met office at the Paris Climate Conference.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe myth that climate change is conspiracy to reduce freedom is spread by a powerful and greedy elite which has largely captured governments to preserve their privileges in an increasingly unequal world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLong before that point, our prosperity, security, culture and identity will disintegrate. A Europe unable to cope with a few million war refugees will collapse under the weight of tens or even hundreds of millions of climate refugees.\u201d<\/p>\n
