According to Turkish media reports, there was a secret NATO structure involved in the attempted coup that took place in Turkey on July 15, German newspaper<\/em> Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten wrote<\/em>.<\/p>\n

3 Aug 2016 – <\/em>The media source, referring to\u00a0reports of\u00a0Turkish media, wrote that this structure has primarily been used by\u00a0the British and Americans to\u00a0influence political events in\u00a0Turkey.<\/p>\n

The newspaper also noted that Fethullah Gulen, a US-based Muslim cleric, who was accused by\u00a0the Turkish government of\u00a0plotting the coup, could also be a part of\u00a0this structure.<\/p>\n

“If one wants to\u00a0again create relationship of\u00a0trust with\u00a0the Western institutions, Gladio [clandestine NATO structure] in\u00a0Turkey must be eliminated as\u00a0it already was in\u00a0several Western countries” Turkish journalist Ozcan Tikit wrote for\u00a0newspaper Habert\u00fcrk.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0DWN<\/a>, Erdogan and the Turkish government are determined to “completely smash this clandestine structure.”<\/p>\n

“Erdogan is determined to\u00a0smash Gladio in\u00a0any case. Because the head of\u00a0state has\u00a0\u2014 albeit belatedly\u00a0\u2014 realized that NATO seeks to\u00a0harm Turkey’s territorial integrity,” the newspaper noted.<\/p>\n

At the same time, former head of\u00a0Turkish intelligence services B\u00fclent Orakoglu argued that NATO’s secret structures are active not only in\u00a0Turkey, but\u00a0also in\u00a0the whole Europe.<\/p>\n

“There is a force that wants the EU to\u00a0dissolve. This force is a new form of\u00a0Gladio, which carries out\u00a0its operations among\u00a0the population. I am confident that there is a Gladio structure in\u00a0Europe which is working towards\u00a0the dissolution of\u00a0the EU,” Orakoglu said.<\/p>\n

On July 15, an attempted coup took place in\u00a0Turkey and was suppressed the following\u00a0day. Over 240 people were killed during\u00a0the coup attempt and an estimated 2,000 were wounded.<\/p>\n

Since the failed coup, Turkey has jailed more than\u00a010,000 people and suspended more than\u00a050,000 judges, civil servants, and educators under\u00a0a state of\u00a0emergency in\u00a0which expressing ideas similar to\u00a0those of\u00a0Gulen is considered a crime.<\/p>\n
