The treaty will enter into force for Moldova on 1 January 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ICC applauds Moldova\u2019s decision to join the international community\u2019s efforts to put an end to impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes that threaten the peace, security and well-being of the world,\u201d the court, which is based in The Hague, said in a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icc-cpi.int\/NR\/exeres\/85C38621-732E-4BB5-9732-65DD3AB67498.htm\" >news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An independent, permanent court, the ICC was set up in 2002 after the number of ratifications passed 60 that year.<\/p>\n<p>It is currently investigating events in five countries or regions: Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Sudan\u2019s Darfur region, the Central African Republic (CAR) and Kenya.
