{"id":81652,"date":"2016-10-24T12:00:34","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T11:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/?p=81652"},"modified":"2016-10-20T14:13:04","modified_gmt":"2016-10-20T13:13:04","slug":"i-voted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/2016\/10\/i-voted\/","title":{"rendered":"I Voted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I voted today \u2026<br \/>\nI voted for peace and justice and sanity<br \/>\nIn an insane world of violence and injustice.<br \/>\nI voted.<\/p>\n<p>I voted for clear streams, rivers, and seas;<br \/>\nBright stars in a cedar-scented night-sky;<br \/>\nWhale-songs heard in unpolluted oceans.<br \/>\nNot for the lesser of two evils,<br \/>\nBut for the greatest good for the greatest number\u2014<br \/>\nFor nothing less, I voted.<\/p>\n<p>I voted for climate-change victims;<br \/>\nAnd for those torn apart by war;<br \/>\nAgainst the Empire, and for the planet;<br \/>\nFor the hungry and forgotten,<br \/>\nFor the terrified and abused&#8211;<br \/>\nI voted.<\/p>\n<p>Against the military-industrial-media complex<br \/>\nAnd for the dream of MLK&#8211;<br \/>\nI voted.<\/p>\n<p>I voted for Iraqi mothers and Afghani;<br \/>\nFor Pakistani mothers, and around the world\u2014<br \/>\nBecause each of them is my mother, also,<br \/>\nWeeping like Rachel for her lost children.<\/p>\n<p>For Kathy Kelly and Rachel Corrie,<br \/>\nFor Cindy Sheehan and Cynthia McKinney,<br \/>\nJill Stein, Helen Caldicott and Chelsea Manning&#8211;<br \/>\nFor standing against madness and lies,<br \/>\nOpportunism and exploitation\u2014<br \/>\nFor all of them, I voted.<\/p>\n<p>For brothers in exile I voted;<br \/>\nFor the martyred, the betrayed, the abandoned\u2014<br \/>\nIshmael, Aguinaldo, Sandino and Guevara;<br \/>\nTashtunka Witco, Tecumseh, Snowden and Assange.<br \/>\nFor Ramzy Baroud and Howard Zinn\u2014<br \/>\nFor this council of leaders, I voted.<\/p>\n<p>Against slavery and wage-slavery;<br \/>\nSexploitation, television and bad food;<br \/>\nThe corruption of Art;
