Digging in for the Long Haul!<\/em><\/p>\n

15 Nov 2016 – <\/em>The work of justice, peace and malama honua (caring for the earth) involves a lifelong commitment and our efforts today in Hawaii and around the world are more important than ever before. Never give up!<\/p>\n

This week saw solidarity actions around the world, including actions on several Hawaiian Islands, where people stood with Native Americans seeking to protect sacred land and water at Standing Rock, North Dakota from another oil company pipeline.<\/p>\n

This week also saw Hawaii\u2019s native people, the Kanaka Maoli, standing in an ongoing contested case hearing to protect Hawaii\u2019s most sacred temple, Mauna Kea, from further desecration in the name of scientific astronomy development. It also saw Hawaii\u2019s native people speaking out about imposed toxins in the Hawaiian Homestead area of Keaukaha and Panaewa and a planning meeting to stop the bombing of Pohakuloa and the spread of radiation and other military toxins around our island home.<\/p>\n

Throughout Hawaii and the U.S., thousands of people are demonstrating in cities and towns against President elect Trump who during his campaign made blatant racist, sexist, Islamophobic statements, threatened to expel millions, close the EPA, cancel all efforts to halt climate change, cut services to the poor, for healthcare, for schools, and to expand an already bloated military budget and even use nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n

In such dark times, we must rededicate ourselves in the spirit of nonviolence \u2013 kapua aloha, toward all people and redouble our efforts for justice, peace and the earth. Together, we can build a movement that rejects violence and can change the course of history for the better. Get involved, dig deep, carry on for the long haul, and let your light shine!<\/p>\n
