The\u00a0Syria Solidarity Movement\u00ae\u00a0<\/strong>advises disqualification of the film \u201cThe White Helmets\u201d for a 2017 Academy Award.\u00a0\u00a0It has been nominated in the category of Short Documentary.<\/em><\/p>\n

The problems with this film:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. It is more infomercial than documentary. The filmmakers\u00a0never set foot in Syria<\/a>..<\/li>\n
  2. Much of the footage, including the opening scenes, appears staged, with sound effects, and may not be from Syria. The White Helmets have made\u00a0faked scenes<\/a>of this type.\u00a0\u00a0The lighting is always perfect, as well as the camera work. There are never body parts or ghastly wounds.\u00a0\u00a0The authenticity is completely unverified.<\/li>\n
  3. Claims that the \u201cWhite Helmets\u201d are apolitical volunteers are false. White Helmet leaders actively campaign for US\/NATO military intervention. They operate only in areas controlled by the armed opposition, primarily al-Nusra\/al-Qaeda.<\/li>\n
  4. The White Helmets organization is a creation of foreign powers supporting the war to overthrow the Syrian government. It was initiated by\u00a0James Le Mesurier<\/a>, a British military contractor, with major funding from the UK, US, and other countries, now more than\u00a0$100 million<\/a>\u00a0for this \u201cvolunteer\u201d organization. The \u201cWhite Helmets\u201d brand is managed by a New York marketing company called \u201cThe Syria Campaign\u201d, directed by an\u00a0Anna Nolan<\/a>, an Irish American who has never been to Syria. This is a media campaign, with the Netflix film being one of their promotions.<\/li>\n
  5. The White Helmets stole the name Syrian Civil Defense from the\u00a0legitimate organization of this name<\/a>which has existed since the 1950s and which is a founding member of the International Civil Defense Organization. When terrorists invaded Aleppo in 2012, they stole equipment and killed volunteer rescue workers of the authentic Syrian Civil Defense.<\/li>\n
  6. Claims that \u201cWhite Helmets\u201d are unarmed are untrue. Photos and videos show their members carrying arms and\u00a0celebrating<\/a>al-Nusra\/al-Qaeda military victories.<\/li>\n
  7. Claims that the White Helmets have saved 80,000 lives are nonsense and totally unsubstantiated.<\/li>\n
  8. When the Syrian army recaptured east Aleppo in 2016, nearly all the civilians rushed into the protection of government controlled areas. They\u00a0described abuse<\/a>by the \u201cterrorists\u201d and how civilians who tried to flee had been killed by the armed groups. They described how the \u201cWhite Helmets\u201d prioritized support to the armed fighters and did little to help civilians.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \"\"<\/a>\u201cThe White Helmets\u201d film is typical of the disinformation and deceit in the war on Syria.<\/p>\n
