And that number has been rising ever since, warming\u00a0the planet by 1.8 degrees F (1 degree C) along the way.<\/p>\n<p>CO2 levels\u00a0fluctuate with the seasons, climbing a bit higher each spring. We first hit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.climatecentral.org\/news\/the-last-time-co2-was-this-high-humans-didnt-exist-15938\" >400 parts per million<\/a>\u00a0back in 2013, and that\u00a0became <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/grist.org\/briefly\/2016-will-go-down-in-history-as-the-first-year-of-the-rest-of-our-lives-not-in-a-good-way\/\" >the new norm just four years later<\/a>. And on April 18 this year, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.climatecentral.org\/news\/carbon-dioxide-410-ppm-21223\" >as predicted<\/a>, we crossed the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.climatecentral.org\/news\/we-just-breached-the-410-parts-per-million-threshold-21372\" >410 ppm<\/a>\u00a0threshold for the first time at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.climatecentral.org\/news\/we-just-breached-the-410-parts-per-million-threshold-21372\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-91114\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/carbon-dioxide_410ppm-environ-global-warming-climate.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/carbon-dioxide_410ppm-environ-global-warming-climate.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/carbon-dioxide_410ppm-environ-global-warming-climate-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/carbon-dioxide_410ppm-environ-global-warming-climate-768x552.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.climatecentral.org\/news\/we-just-breached-the-410-parts-per-million-threshold-21372\" >Climate Central<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0El Ni\u00f1o and other natural factors have sped up CO2 concentration increases in the past two years, fossil fuel emissions are the major driver,\u00a0according to Climate Central.<\/p>\n<p>As fictional carb-thief\u00a0Aladdin <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sVxUUotm1P4\" >once said<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cUnbelievable sights\/Indescribable feeling\/Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling\/Through an endless diamond sky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was talking about the feeling you get when thinking about carbon concentration levels, right? Because that\u2019s how WE feel!
