Sohn of <em>World Peace Through World Law<\/em>, gave a talk in a town in the U.S. Midwest around the year 1900. He noticed all men were carrying two loaded guns in their belt.<\/p>\n<p>A year later he returned and was surprised to see that nobody had a gun. He asked people what had happened.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Shortly after you left,&#8221; someone told him, &#8220;there was a series of fatal shootings. A judge passed through our town and offered to come by once a week to sit to court if we would agree to give up our guns and appoint a sheriff. We thought, why not try, and have indeed felt much safer since then.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The same simple insight still has to dawn on the leaders of the world&#8217;s nations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>_____________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/dietrich-fischer.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-65349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.transcend.org\/tms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/dietrich-fischer-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><em>Dietrich Fischer (1941-2015) from M\u00fcnsingen, Switzerland, got a Licentiate in Mathematics from the University of Bern 1968 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from New York University 1976. 1986-88 he was a MacArthur Fellow in International Peace and Security at Princeton University. He has taught mathematics, computer science, economics and peace studies at various universities and been a consultant to the United Nations.
