The British troops were on short duty because of the difficulty and the dangers of the rising water. Gandhi&#8217;s patient followers were not working limited hours. They helped the British troops and lifted their overturned boats.<\/p>\n<p>The platoon commander remarked to a reporter, &#8220;If they fought back, if they used weapons, I knew how to handle them. He has taught mathematics, computer science, economics and peace studies at various universities and been a consultant to the United Nations.
