Daniel M\u00fcller \/ Greenpeace<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Greenpeace has been <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org.uk\/coke-campaign-goes-global\/\" >campaigning<\/a> for Coke to stop polluting oceans with plastic bottles over the last few months. The organization reports that plastic bottles are one of the most commonly found items on beaches across the world, bringing a litany of environmental hazards with them wherever they pop up.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>Read More: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globalcitizen.org\/en\/content\/nurdles-microplastic-plastic-pellets-pollutes-uk-b\/\" >Tiny Pellets, Big Problem: Plastic Pollutes 73% of British Beaches<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOnce [plastic bottles] are in the environment, they become a hazard for wildlife,\u201d wrote Tisha Brown, a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org.uk\/coke-campaign-goes-global\/\" >campaigner for Greenpeace\u2019s<\/a> ocean team. \u201cLarger pieces of plastic can become an entanglement or choking hazard for animals. It has been estimated that there could be more plastic than fish in the world\u2019s oceans by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org\/assets\/downloads\/EllenMacArthurFoundation_TheNewPlasticsEconomy_15-3-16.pdf\" >2050<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In response to these concerns, Coca-Cola UK announced several measures aimed at reducing plastic use, including a pledge to increase <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2017\/oct\/02\/coca-cola-increased-its-production-of-plastic-bottles-by-a-billion-last-year-say-greenpeace\" >recycled plastic<\/a> in its bottles to 50% by 2020.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>Read More: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globalcitizen.org\/en\/content\/coca-cola-promises-to-use-50-recycled-plastic-in-u\/\" >Coca Cola Will Use More Recycled Plastic \u2014 But Only in the UK<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Many feel this target does not represent a true commitment to fighting pollution by the company. Amid investigations of the size and scope of Coke\u2019s manufacturing process, Greenpeace activists see many of the beverage giant\u2019s actions as PR moves.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were trying to uncover for the first time the true size of Coca-Cola&#8217;s plastic footprint,&#8221; Louisa Casson, oceans campaigner for Greenpeace, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/04\/10\/europe\/coca-cola-greenpeace-protest\/index.html\" >told CNN<\/a>. &#8220;And we are actually seeing them going backwards.
