3 Oct 2017 – <\/em>President Donald\u00a0Trump\u2019s administration\u00a0is facing strong backlash from civil\u00a0rights groups after voting\u00a0against a U.N. resolution that\u00a0condemns using death penalty to punish \u201cconsensual same-sex relations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The U.N. Human Rights Council approved the measure on Friday with a 27-13 vote, with seven countries abstaining.\u00a0The United States, led by Amb. Nikki Haley, voted for an amendment to the resolution that\u00a0said the death penalty was not necessarily a human rights violation, and voted against amendments<\/a>\u00a0urging countries to stop\u00a0using experimental drugs in executions.<\/p>\n

The Human Rights Campaign called<\/a> the vote \u201cbeyond disgraceful,\u201d and former Obama national security advisor Susan Rice took aim at Trump:<\/p>\n
