3 Apr 2021 – The words of a woman living in Colombia who was raped by armed actors; and of a male survivor of sexual violence from Uganda, who was raped by Ugandan government soldiers. Today both are local activists working closely with victim-survivors of (conflict-related) sexual violence. In Colombia the word ‘victim’ is widely used whereas in Uganda ‘survivor’ is the preferred term.
