(PORTUGUESE) ANISTIA POLÍTICA PÓSTUMA É CONCEDIDA A CHICO MENDES

(Brasília-Brasil)- A anistia política póstuma do ambientalista Chico Mendes foi publicada no Diário Oficial da União desta quarta-feira (11/fev/09). A decisão do Ministério da Justiça é de dezembro de 2008, mas só agora é oficial, 20 anos depois da morte do seringueiro.
Ainda está previsto o pagamento de indenização no valor de aproximadamente R$ 340 mil a Ilzamar Gadelha Bezerra Mendes, viúva de Chico Mendes.
A anistia ao seringueiro foi concedida por unanimidade no julgamento realizado pela Caravana da Anistia. O ministro da Justiça, Tarso Genro, apoiou a decisão. Ele ressaltou que "Chico Mendes era um homem à frente de seu tempo, um homem que construiu um amplo processo civilizatório. Hoje, o estado pede desculpas pelo que fez com ele”.
Em 1980, Chico Mendes foi enquadrado na Lei de Segurança Nacional a pedido de fazendeiros da região. Eles queriam envolvê-lo no assassinato do capataz de uma fazenda. Em 1984, foi acusado de incitar posseiros à violência. Julgado pelo Tribunal Militar de Manaus, foi absolvido por falta de provas.
Chico Mendes foi seringueiro, sindicalista e ativista ambiental. Ele foi morto a tiros em dezembro de 1988 na porta dos fundos de sua casa. O mandante do assassinato, o fazendeiro Darly Alves da Silva, foi condenado a 19 anos de prisão.
