A farmer from Appenzell was small and slim.  On a visit to Zurich, a tall, heavy-set man said to him, "When I see you, it reminds me of a famine."  The farmer replied, "Yes, and when I see you, it reminds me of who is responsible for the famine."

A farmers couple from Appenzell went shopping in Zurich.  After they had been walking around all morning, the husband urgently needed to go to a bathroom.  He was searching in vain, and finally, in desperation, he went into a small blind alley and pied against the wall.  Just then a policeman came around the corner and said, "Hey, maybe you do such things in Appenzell, but here in Zurich, this is forbidden.  That will be a ten Frank fine."  The farmer opened his wallet and had only a 20 Frank bill, which he gave to the policeman.  The policeman did not have change, and did not know what to do.  So the farmer said to his wife, "Come on, make a pi-pi too, then it will be just right."
