    For my money, Carlin was one of the best social critics to bridge the 20th and 21st centuries.

    “It’s called the American Dream…because you have to be asleep to believe it!”

    Carlin was funny as hell because he showed us the ultimate follies of the human species–our belief-systems, our vanities, the fairy tales we tell our children and ourselves.

    It was humor that could hurt, that could cut to the quick and draw blood. Twainian dark humor that peeled back layers of truth to reveal little absurdities that confound the world.
