UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “The only realistic, just, and sustainable solution is two States — Israel and Palestine — living side-by-side in peace and security, within secure and recognized borders, on the basis of the pre-1967 lines, with Jerusalem as the capital of both – in line with international law, UN resolutions and other relevant agreements.”

We welcome debate and dissent, but personal — ad hominem — attacks (on authors, other users or any individual), abuse and defamatory language will not be tolerated. Nor will we tolerate attempts to deliberately disrupt discussions. We aim to maintain an inviting space to focus on intelligent interactions and debates.
You are wrong Mr Guterres !!!!! a two-state solution is NOT a solution. Palestine will then have proper Armed Forces and a bigger Hall will ensue.
The SOLUTION is an Israel-Palestine Confederation
Why do people, even the inestimable Jeffrey Sachs, keep repeating this when the Zionist State has for at least 77 years absolutely refused to follow international law or obey any demands made by the UN? The 800,000 murderous armed “settlers” in the West Bank will NEVER be able to be removed-who would try it- and living alongside such “neighbours” would be impossible as we can already see. Israel has to be treated by all the world’s nations as a pariah and be helped by NOBODY with arms, trade, political support. NOBODY should protect them.
Anais, you seem to ignore that it all happens ‘because’ of the United Nations. They are an International War Club (all member states pay to have the right to organise wars. The 5 countries with the largest war industries, USA, UK, China, Russia and France, form the permanent war committee, the Insecurity Council. The boss is called Secretary, because like all secretaries he has to ensure his paymasters fulfill their war plans. All whilst pretending the UN is a Peace organisation.
As evident from the article, it is remarkable the currently emerging enthusiasm for a “Two-State” solution to the challenge of Palestine and its relation with Israel. What is so curious is that “Two-State” is presented with little thought or commentary as to the variety of creative possibilities which this might imply. “Two-State” has become a slogan — “one size fits all”. It is as though there was just one formula — developed years ago and considered the most appropriate. Little is said about alternatives — or about those which have been proposed or might be proposed. Governments proposing “Two-State” at this time (as with think tanks) seem to have devoted little thinking to the possibilities or to feel any embarrassment at having failed to do so. There is no effort to simulate what it might mean and whether any preferred formula is viable, as discussed separately (Reframing “Two-state” Possibilities: Beyond the constraints of disciplinary frameworks in a two-state civilization, https://www.laetusinpraesens.org/docs20s/twostate.php) — originally presented in TMS
As usual. ther War Supremo, who supervises all wars in the world organised by his paymasters and ensures according to war industry plans, adds his voice to ensure Israel has a new BIG enemy.
Lebanon, Syria and Iran are separate countries. Is this a guarantee of Peace with Israel?
The Solution is a Muslim/Jewish CONFEDERATION.
Dear friends, thanks for your thoughtful comments.
I tend to be skeptical about 2-state too. Israel, a proven rogue nation, does not comply or care to give a fig for any laws or treaties UN or not. Like Nazi-Germany, it does as it wants, challenging the whole world.
But most importantly, it has the support and acquiescence of the most powerful: USA and EU. And the SILENCE of the rest, especially the Arabs, speaks loudly about their concerns for the Palestinians.
Machiavellian politics rein supreme in the 21st century. Galtung, Gandhi, Luther King, Mandela, Palme and others are forgotten, true nuisances in the present war-economies world context. Added to the idiocy and ignorance of autistic ‘leaders’ especially in the US and the EU.
The UN has no power, remember. It is a make-believe institution for world peace. Bla bla bla. As I wrote and firmly believe, we are still on the SAVAGE state, all of us humans, on planet Earth. To abolish wars, militarism, torture, genocide, exploitation of any kind, immoral imperialisms and hegemonies, we must first become CIVILIZED–as a whole, as a species.
Otherwise, get ready for a nuclear war and another asteroid belt around the sun–of what was Earth.
