The U.N.’s humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher warned today that 14,000 babies could die in Gaza over the next 48 hours if more aid does not enter the besieged territory. The warning comes as Israel expands its military assault, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to take control of the entire Gaza Strip. “The suffering is really beyond description,” says Mahmoud Alsaqqa, Oxfam’s food security and livelihoods coordinator in Gaza, who speaks with Democracy Now! from Gaza City.
