A robotized society, controlled by fear of spurious attackers and through torture, was supposed to be an alert, not a blueprint for the future. A prophetic fiction indeed, Big Brother was to become a big TV hit that would brainwash minds throughout the planet into mediocrities.
Nineteen Eighty Four was first published in 1949.
