Um estudo sobre o trabalho escravo no Maranhão será divulgado na próxima quinta-feira (27). O “Atlas Político-Jurídico do Trabalho Escravo Contemporâneo no Estado do Maranhão” contém uma série de informações sobre os processos envolvendo a prática do trabalho escravo no estado.

Segundo dados da Comissão Pastoral da Terra (CPT), somente no Brasil existem aproximadamente 25 mil trabalhadores que vivem em condições semelhantes à de escravos. De acordo com informações do Atlas, o Maranhão é o que mais fornece força de trabalho escravo.  A região do município de Açailândia, fronteira com o Pará, é apontada como de maior ocorrência. As atividades que mais utilizam a prática escrava são a pecuária e a indústria carvoeira.

Além disso, o Altas mostra “estudo sobre as figuras dos peões “escravizados”, o patrão “proprietário de terras” e o gato – “o aliciador” –, personagens de destaque no processo de trabalho escravo.” O documento também questiona por que ninguém está preso por este crime e avalia negativamente os dois planos criados pelos governos para erradicar esse mal.

O lançamento do Atlas fará parte da Semana Nacional de Combate ao Trabalho Escravo e ocorrerá às 19hs na sede do Centro de Defesa, na Rua Bom Jesus, 576, centro de Açailândia (MA).
